In the yellow-tinted flashback, we pick up with Briggs, blindfolded in a shack, with a Mexican cartel member telling him that last time they had a fed in their clutches, they starved him, then cut off pieces of him and cooked them until the fed begged to eat his own flesh. Briggs can hear jangling keys. The captor rips off his blindfold and he laughs; then the man plays with some shiny instruments of torture and dismemberment. Briggs is all bravado as the man swabs his inner elbow and then injects him with heroin.
Mike asks what the cartel members were trying to get out of Briggs; he says they never asked him questions, just kept him high. Which he enjoyed, judging from the sex faces he keeps making. After about two weeks, the cartel members just abandoned Briggs in the shack, and he eventually escaped and wandered the desert, all smacked out and at that point useless to the bureau if they ever found out that he was a junkie now. Briggs says he got cleaned up, kept his addiction a secret and became everybody's big brother at Graceland.
Mike asks if Briggs is still using. He confesses that he had a few slips after that initial period, but he's clean now. They get up to go home and Briggs says he'll keep working until something stops him, with the implication that he knows Mike can do that.
Graceland. Johnny walks into Charlie's room and after she asks, tells her she looks like shit. I wish they'd make the slightest effort to make Vanessa Ferlito look less than just-rolled-out-of-bed fresh. She has, like, the faintest of purple shadows under her eyes. I should look so good as this supposed smackhead. She wants to get back in the game of catching Odin Rossi, but Johnny wants to know what being high was like, since with his rough upbringing, he saw people kills each other for a fix. He wonders if he'd understand why someone would do that if he tried it. She tells him he would. So obviously he's worried about her going back under with Quinn.
Johnny goes to the living room, where Jakes is playing with toy robots that used to be full of smuggled pills. Johnny asks if he can give one of them to his cousin, and Jakes ribs him for being a miser. Briggs and Mike show up and they lie about where they were all night; Mike says he was driving Bello and Briggs was doing surveillance.
Bello's drug-packing warehouse. Since they lost the heroin in the torpedo, they're cutting the supply they have with fentanyl. Mike observes that this will kill people, and Bello's all, eh, just junkies. Mike offends Bello when he says lessening the quality of the product will show weakness, so Bello cuffs him and tells him to be careful, as it's his fault they lost the torpedo.
