Bailey checks on Burke and asks him if there's anything he needs. Burke wants ice chips, morphine, and Cristina. The request for Cristina makes Bailey wonder why all the ass-kissing suck-ups (her words, not mine, but I don't dispute them) aren't hovering around Burke. Burke doesn't say anything, and Bailey determines, "You know something." "I'm a patient," Burke pleads. "Preston. Xavier. Burke. What have you done with my SUCK-UPS?!" Bailey demands. Aw, shit!
More hell breaking loose to save Denny. I'm so exhausted. Meredith tries to find medicine to stop the heart. She finds it, they give it, Denny flatlines. Long pause before the heart starts again and Denny gasps. Bailey arrives and says, "You fools better have a good explanation for this." Merciful commercial break.
Bailey orders Izzie several times to "step AWAY from the patient." Izzie refuses because she has to pump Denny's heart. Bailey sees the cut LVAD line and, mouth open, she tries to deputize Nurse Syphilis (I wish it had been chlamydia, because "Olivia Chlamydia" makes a nice rhyme) to take over the pumping. However, Izzie freaks and yells at Nursyphilis not to touch her. Bailey, realizing Izzie's extreme state of mind, leaves well enough alone and tells Nursyphilis to stay and help Izzie if Izzie will let her. She yanks the other three interns to the side for some good old-fashioned behind-the-barn yelling. In whispers. Bailey whisper-screams questions, Meredith tries to open her big mouth to defend them, but Bailey raises a furiously stiff finger, announcing, "No, no -- don't speak. Nobody speaks, I do not want to have to testify against any of you in a court of law. NOT ONE WORD!" Bailey goes on, almost to herself, "She cut his LVAD wire." George huffs out and looks around. "I SAID NO SPEAKING!" Bailey shouts. George shouts back that he didn't say anything. "THEN NO MOVING!" Bailey adds. Hee! Bailey sends Cristina off to Burke and orders George to get Denny's lab results. "Do not pass Go, do not talk to another living soul. Get the labs, get back here!" Bailey growls between gritted teeth. Bailey directs Meredith to come with her.Cristina stands staring at Burke, but she stands just outside the room. Thunder rumbles outside. Burke wakes up. Cristina hustles into the room as if nothing is wrong, asks how he is, and busily looks at his chart and films. Her shoulders slump and she moans, "Oh, Burke," as she sees the bad career-ending stuff. Burke tells Cristina that he can either wait out the numbness or have McWeenie go in and operate right away. Close to tears, Burke wants to know what Cristina thinks he should do. Cristina isn't equal to advising or even talking to him -- all she can say is "Yeah" to everything Burke says. She beats it out of there, giving Bailey as an excuse. In the dark on-call room, Cristina hides and breathes hard.
