Alex and Jackson then go find Jess to report that Brian's surgery went well; as they are talking to her Brian's dad peeks his head around the corner as if he didn't realize they could see him, and Jess calls to him. He manages to catch himself before he calls Brian "Briana" again and admits he just wanted to know how it went. Jess then admits that she was the one who sent him the email. Alex and Jackson step back discreetly so that they can talk, and Jess tells him sincerely that she knows they haven't spoken much since Brian moved out but that he loves his dad and really wants to be like him. She also says that she understands why he blames Jess, since Brian starting changing when he met her, but she pleads that it's hard to feel like you're in a mold you don't fit. With tears in her eyes she tells him that Brian just wants his dad to love him the way he loves his dad, and he didn't say anything about the surgery for fear of screwing that up. Brian's dad seems totally moved, but then he does the man-sniff to control his tears and reaches for his wallet. He pulls out some cash as he asks Jess if they are okay with rent money, and hands over what he has. It's actually a really big first step as this seems to be all he knows how to do right now until he can digest it a little more. Jess is brokenhearted that he won't stay until Brian wakes up, but he just shakes his head and walks away.
