Derek goes out after her and she apologizes, but doesn't want Jimmy to see her cry. She admits that when she heard about the plane crash part of her was relieved since it gave her more time with her brother. She's quick to point out that she was not actually glad that Derek was in a devastating accident that killed some of his loved ones and nearly derailed his career, but that the past few months were the best that she and her brother ever had. But once she gets that and the tears out of her system, she sucks it up and declares that she's ready.

When she goes back into Jimmy's room, Princess walks up with some labs that Derek requested and profusely apologizes that Smash isn't available since he's off to harvest a liver. Derek regards her for a moment and then declares he doesn't want anyone in the gallery since he doesn't need an audience. He then asks if she's up for it, and she nods. After he leaves she takes a deep breath but mercifully, she actually doesn't start crying even though her face looks like the tears are not super far under the surface. I'll still believe that "crying on command" bullshit only when I see irrefutable proof, and her face right now is not that.

Mere also can't do anything without looking like she's about to (well, and actually) burst into tears, and Smash isn't helping as they ride in the ambulance and he keeps apologizing for his earlier screw-ups. She orders him to let it go, so he changes tack and congratulates her on the baby, since he's unable to let there be silence. He prattles on about how the baby must be the size of a lemon now, growing feet, discharging urine into the amniotic fluid... he has many admirable qualities, but judging a social situation and picking the right thing to say is not one of them. He starts listing all of the annoying second trimester side effects as well, so Mere threatens to start crying and he mercifully shuts up.
