But you know, we would write that stuff and say to ourselves that the audience doesn't have to get every single joke that you're writing. You have to have respect for people. But on the other hand, I was just going, "Who are we writing this show for, ourselves?" Other writers loved the show, and the kind of younger executives who watched it, really loved it, I mean cult-level loved it. I don't know. I go back and forth, yet I think to myself, why get out of bed, why call myself a writer if I'm not going to think the best of the audience and ask the most of myself? Why do it? It's not worth it to me. I'll take my money and...well, I can't really retire yet.

No. Not quite yet.
So much for that posturing.

Well, it was so hard to write about that show, honestly, because I could NOT get through a single recap in less than four or five hours, because there was just so much to write about. It was me, basically, with my finger on the rewind button so I could write down every single line.
And yet, what we all liked about your recaps, and, you know, it's why we really noticed them and why we really read them, and at one point, I think it was Will who came in and he said, "You guys should read this." And we all read it and the kind of style of it, the sassy style and also the irreverence of it, captured what I felt our show was. It's why we really all responded to it. Because anybody can do a synopsis, but it just seemed like you really got what we were doing, and then you were doing your own thing. And we really, really appreciated it.

Oh, that's so good, because that's what I was going for. I think you said something about if I had backed off, that you would have--
That would have been a disaster! And we all said that we really, really didn't want it, and you did not back off and, um, why would you? I mean, what's the point?

Well, it's the same thing you're saying. Why get out of bed? Why write at all if you're not doing what you want? Why would I write a recap that panders -- I mean, who am I writing for?
How is the site doing?

It's doing really, really well. I think we get an outrageous amount of hits per day or something. It's insane.
Well, it's by far the best site. I mean, I really, really...because the people who log onto it, they're not just these, "I LOVE AL SANTOS SO MUCH!" They're not just kids. It seems to attract a more intelligent fan base.
