After last night's Elise fakeout, Ramsay banishes the teams from Hell's Kitchen. Elise is soooo grateful to still be here, and says she's going to step forward with her best foot, mangling two expressions for the price of one. "And I hope my team does too," she adds.
The next morning, both teams commiserate, and Elizabeth promises not to have another apologygasm. Jennifer and Elise don't look convinced.
The day's challenge is about timing. One chef from each team will make a thirty-minute entrée, one a twenty-minute, and one a ten, and they all have to hit the pass together. They're given one minute to decide who's going to cook what.
Tommy and Jennifer get to work first on their thirty-minute dishes, with Elise and Elizabeth yelling at Jennifer. "Shut the fuck up! I need five freaking minutes to figure out what I'm doing," she tells us. She snaps at her teammates at least a little more politely.
Paul and Will are likewise yelling help out to Tommy, who at least seems to appreciate it.
With twenty minutes left, Paul and Elizabeth go to work, with Paul, like your typical short man, promising to show us why he's a big deal.
Finally all three teams have all three chefs going. With just a few minutes left, Jennifer discovers her lamb is raw. Not sure how that works. She throws it in a pan to keep it from being blue, and everyone gets it up to the pass.
Thirty-minute meals up first, somehow without Rachel Ray as the celebrity guest chef. Tommy's dish is quail egg on top of lamb, which is surprising to Ramsay and eyeroll-inducing for Paul. Ramsay tastes it, and says he never thought about doing it, but it tastes good.
Then Ramsay asks Jennifer to describe her dish. "It's probably the worst dish I ever made in my life," she says, sabotaging herself without a single tastebud tickled. "Young lady, you had thirty minutes," he tells her. With most people, calling someone "young lady" is a dressing-down. For Ramsay, it's somewhere north of "fucktard." Elizabeth has no idea what Jennifer is thinking, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Elizabeth. Luckily for Jennifer, the lamb is merely pink, not raw, and Ramsay declares it delicious and the winner of the thirty-minute dish contest. One-nil Red.
Paul brings up his pan-roasted sea bass. Ramsay praises the sear, says the reduction is a little watery, but it's got zest and finesse. Elizabeth has made monkfish with couscous. He calls the monkfish perfect, the couscous slightly bland. "Two good dishes," says Ramsay, but eventually gives the point to Blue, because tie goes to whatever team needs it in order for the contest to come down to the last meal for every single challenge.
