Kumar walks in and announces that the donor's history "came up clean." The guy responds to this immediately by laughing at him, which I must admit to enjoying. Instead of just ignoring him, Kumar asks if the maintenance guy just laughed at him. "I sneezed," the guy says. "He's a genius coffee repairman," Foreman explains, rolling his eyes. Why are they even giving this guy the time of day? I would have left the room by now. I don't need strangers giving me shit. I get enough of it from people I know. Kumar the Unexpectedly Observant wants to know why the coffee repairman is wearing argyle socks. WHO CARES? House apparently does, as he finally involves himself in the conversation to call the guy an idiot for wearing argyle socks with construction boots. How does House know what he's wearing on his feet? Can he even see them from the couch? And why is it so out of the ordinary for a coffee machine repairman to wear argyle socks anyway? Is it against the Coffee Machine Repairman's union rules or something? Of course, this is the new PI character I've heard so much about leading up to this season. If he catches on, he'll get his own spin-off. And this scene is illustrating why I hate when shows introduce spin-off characters. They always have to shoehorn the spin-off character into the show and force characters to engage with him in a way they normally would not. Normally they wouldn't give the coffee machine repairman the time of day no matter what he said or how many times he laughed. But now everyone has to act like this guy is really interesting and cool so that we the audience will also think so and watch the spin-off when/if it makes it to series. All that said, after watching this entire episode and going back over my recap, I have to say that I ended up liking the PI.
