I'm not sure next season will pick up. I think when the show got its guarantee, the Powers-that-Be decided they had to set aside the premise for a while. In theory, I'm okay with any given season not being primarily focused on mother-meeting, but this season, the characters seemed to regress -- particularly Barney and Ted. Usually, when a season ends, I have to deal with a week or two weeks' worth of letdown. Right now, all I'm feeling is relief. And the fan in me? Feels nothing. I hope I'm wrong. This show has always been my go-to decompression show, where I could just sit back, laugh, and bask in the love. I want that back.
Thanks to friend and colleague DeAnn Welker for covering for me last week. If I'd known what was coming this week, I would have tried to weasel out of this weecap, too. Come on over to the forums, and convince me I'm wrong to be looking at the show with leaving on my mind.
