So Derek and Jess and Steele and Kym have their crates. These crates are heavy. Mostly the guys carry them and the women help to varying degrees. Skip goes on and on about how Theresa is a princess, but that's what he likes about her, because he wouldn't like a tomboy, and she's in full makeup, and they deserve one another even if I have no idea who they are. Mike and Samantha are practically divorced over his poor canoe navigation skills. What happened to our super couple? Are we now stuck with Skip and Theresa as the ones who might make it through this crazy thing? I feel cheated.

Jason and Jessica whatever. Poor, hapless Jason drops the crate but who cares? Brandee describes walking through the jungle and how thorns were ripping the skin from her legs and I imagine that's a perfect metaphor for what a relationship with Ben would be like. Skip and Theresa catch up to Derek and Jess but the trail is too narrow to pass them. Skip threatens to pass them a few times and Derek is like, "Go ahead!" When Skip finally does pass, he ends up knocking Jess down and making Derek drop his crate. So he's an asshole and she wears full makeup into the Costa Rican jungle. They might be my new least favorites. Oh, I forgot about Ben for a minute. Make that second least favorite.

Along with the two previously-mentioned couples, Steele and Kym and Jason and Jessica arrive at the canoes. They all hop in. Well, except for Steele. He tries to hop in and put the crate in at the same time and ends up tipping the canoe enough that water rushes in. Enough water that the canoe starts sinking. So everyone else takes off while Kym and Steele struggle to get the canoe back on top of the water instead of underneath it. It's tough to row a canoe that's underwater, I hear. Instead of doing the sensible thing and just taking everything out and dumping the canoe, they keep trying to get into the canoe while it's half-full of water, and it tips, and more water gets in, and they are dumb.

The rest of the couples show up and take off while Steele and Kym are still struggling. They finally manage to get it together and take off, and Kym is still bailing water out of the canoe. And now they're in last place. Steele blames himself and is impressed that Kym didn't flip out or become a diva. You KNOW, Vanessa would have been useless in that situation. She just would have stomped her foot and rolled her eyes and been like, "Ugh. Steele!"
