Piggy Cried All the Way Home

The Romanian house mother gives some money to Katia and her roommate. "And buy cheap ones," she reminds them. "If tampon too good… absorb natural fluid… get toxic shock." Lady, tampons are the least of their worries when it comes to what goes into their hoohas. "And get cigarettes and beef pot pies," she says. Buy cheap ones! If pot pie too delicious, you eat too much and get arterial disease.

Katia and her roomie head off into the brisk Chicago night, arm in arm, laughing about something. Unbeknownst to them, a creepy man wearing a dark scowl is stalking them from across the street. Oh, hey, it's Frank! He steps onto the sidewalk in front of them, breathing her name. Katia sends the roomie away, just a little bit, so that she can talk to her stalker. Frank searches her face for some sign of love or joy or even just relief. He doesn't find it, but embraces her anyway. She looks very young and very small against him, in her too-big coat and girlish curls. She breaks the hug. "What are you doing here?" she asks. "After I saw you like that last night," he starts. She reminds him she was having computer problems. He says he knows everything that happened. "You don't need to be afraid anymore," he says. He wonders why she didn't try to call him, but she doesn't have an answer for him. He makes like he's there to rescue her, bring her back to Detroit, but he clearly hasn't thought things through. Where's she supposed to live? What's she supposed to do for a job? He says he'll pay off whatever debt she owes. "You don't have to be scared," he tells her. He's still not getting it, so it's time to get real. "You're a good man, but you were a trick," she says. "You know how many men say they run away with me?" He protests that his feelings for her are real, but when asked to prove it, he can't. He can't name a single thing she likes. He knows what kind of coffee some hacker likes, but he knows nothing about this woman he supposedly loves. At the end, she tells him her name isn't even really Katia. She walks off with her roomie to buy her generic tampons, leaving Frank to realize that he killed a man for a woman he doesn't even know.

Detroit Veteran's Center. Nick is having a less-than-productive meeting with his psych counselor. The guy sounds like he genuinely wants to help Nick in whatever way he can, but Nick is barely in that room. He admits he hasn't been taking his medication regularly and makes noncommittal sounds about being better about it.
