Boyd butters Dani up a bit by sympathizing with how disappointed she must have been when Joe blew all her hard work. Of course, she knows he's buttering her up, but that doesn't make it any less effective. He goes on to say that Joe should be held accountable. On the surface, he's talking about Joe's hissy fit, but it's just his way of coming up behind the issue instead of diving right into it. "Do you think what he did was deliberate – that he had a motive?" he asks, infusing the question with a touch of surprise, as if the thought had only now occurred to him. "He just... started working a different agenda," Dani sighs. "He needed to get Callis out of there." Boyd has finally gotten her to trust him a bit, but he still needs to pull over the line. "You need to protect your future," he says. "If you know anything..." He lets the rest of it go unsaid. Dani wrestles with herself before saying, haltingly, "I think Joe might have killed Brendan." She balks at the idea that Frank might have been in on it, but then Boyd reminds her about Frank's "Eastern European" girlfriend. He doesn't have to connect all the dots for Dani to remember that they were, at one time, looking for an Eastern European woman in connection with Butterball's death. But this only pisses her off, and she shuts down whatever little trust she had extended to Boyd. "You need to go," she tells him. "I respect that," he says, adding, "Bonsoir."
Joe and Frank are still on the boat, still having the conversation about Chicago. "You disappear for more than a day, and you think I'm just gonna let that slide?" He says he had a friend trace Frank's cell. Frank looks all hurt and betrayed, like how could this guy who kills people and takes dirty money resort to spying on me?! "Did you find her?" Joe asks. "She's gone," Frank says. "No one knows where she is." Joe gets all up in his face and reminds him that Katia is the only one who can bring them down. The only one besides themselves, that is, with their poorly executed plans and loud talking out in the open. Frank boohoos about how he can't save Katia now and it's all Joe's fault, conveniently forgetting the part where Katia didn't want to be saved by him. He sighs and rubs his hands over his face, massaging the muscles that have grown weary from so much scowling. "We need to let the investigation go cold like I wanted," he says. "D.P.D. got a taste of blood today," Joe says. "They're not gonna settle for cold now!" Joe says he's going to take April to Canada on his boat. This is his big plan in case he gets caught for Brendan's murder, or any number of other offenses he's committed. "Do you have a plan?" he asks Frank. "Yeah, you're gonna take me back to shore," Frank says. Joe doesn't want to do that until they've agreed on things, so Frank pulls a gun on him. When Joe still refuses, Frank shoots out the deck of his boat. Now Joe has no choice but to take them both back to shore before the boat sinks. Frank needs to get punched right in the wang.
