Claire Lechea, meanwhile, is shocked to find -- when she nervously takes out Ace's check and stares at it for awhile in her office -- that rather than $220K, the check is for $367K, which is more. Aw, man. For one minute I thought we were going to learn why she is so weird, but no.
The boys bring Wheels the official t-shirts of their horse-owning concern, and a mood of celebration pervades. "Sweet and on Valium and possibly gay" Wheels is so much more awesome than Regular flavor. Here's to Valium!
Claire, of course, has taken up Ace's offer to go with him and Gus to the track. Porky Pig is also there, as well as Rosie and her girl jockey buddy. Escalante puts the new jockey on Gus's horse, and Ace asks him to accompany their little party to watch the race. He is feeling expansive, but also I think making the usual Ace Amends for being such a hard-ass all the time.
Twitch gives that lady in the wheelchair a t-shirt from their concern -- "Foray Stables," as in 4-A -- and maybe flirts with her? Or no, he's trying to hook her up with Wheels so nobody will be gay, I think. My goodness. Love is in the air for us all.
Claire: "I am going to put that extra money to use! Why did you give me that particular amount?"
Ace: "367 is my lucky number. Call me Chester. I can be real with you."
It is time to race! This show's favorite part of every episode. I wish when this show is over that they will make a YouTube video of just this part of each episode, so if you really like watching people watching horses run in a circle you could enjoy it. I bet that video would be about ten hours long or so.
One of the horses throws a shoe into the leg of another horse. Because they are horses, I have no idea which of the horses those things are happening to, but I'm sure it'll come out in the wash if we just sit here and watch the horses run in a circle while everybody acts super stressed out.
...I think it is Gus's horse that is the bleeding one. And yet he continues to run, so really it's just the same as ever, with the horse running and everybody on the show yelling encouragement from various locations. In the end, Ace is proud of the horse, and the tiny bit of light in his eyes we've never seen before gives Claire a nice feeling. What's happening? Why hasn't Escalante shit all over the...
Escalante: "You better hope he's not permanently injured."
There it is.
