The next day, Emma and Mads are meeting Rebeccannie to ask her where Alec was that night of the murder. On the way in, Mads still can't (or won't) believe that her father could have killed Derek and is sure Rebeccannie will vouch for Alec because she saw them at her house together. They clip their conversation when they see Rebeccannie. Of course, just a few minutes later, they're pretty transparent about their motivation behind this lunch meeting. They mention Derek and then ask where Alec was that night. Lennie from Of Mice and Men could put this together. Rebeccannie confirms she was with Alec the whole evening, though they don't establish a specific time frame because Mads is quick to insist, "That settles that."
Rebeccannie is wonder what was settled as Ted walks up and asks to talk to Rebeccannie for a moment. Inside, Emma still isn't satisfied. Outside, nor is Ted. He won't be until Rebeccannie is banished from his life and Phoenix proper. As he raises his voice, she takes on an icy calm. She tells him, "I hope you're not operating any time soon. We wouldn't want a repeat of what happened to Justin Miller's mother." She issues a curt, provocative smile as he wonders how she knows what happened. Then he contradicts himself, shouting, "You know damn well what happened that night!" An attendant hears the ruckus and interrupts the conversation before Ted can really fly off the handle. Ted gives Rebeccannie a hate-filled look and walks away.
Res. Ethan Skypes Emma, despite Sutton pointing out that it's a terrible idea. Emma is so happy to see him she's put on a sparkle top for the occasion. As she tells him that they're making progress on the killer, Mads pops into the screen. Ethan practically jumps back that he left town for a few days and suddenly Mads is on their little cabal. Mads and Emma squabble for a few minutes about Alec's guilt or super-duper-guilt when Thayer grabs the computer and tells Ethan to log off. Emma sadly agrees and closes her laptop before Ethan can tell her he loves her. Sutton hears the defeat in his voice as he mutters those three little words to a blackened laptop screen and looks on with schadenfreude at Ethan and Emma's increasingly distant relationship (and, by association, her growing closeness to him).
Mercer house. Word has already gotten back to Kristin about Ted's little flare-up with Rebeccannie. Ted's in no mood to talk about it, but Kristin is feeling assertive tonight and calls him a liar. Ted insists he's not lying, but Kristin practically has to get an extinguisher for his pants and a ruler to measure his nose. She says his behavior changes around Rebeccannie, and the tension between them is palpable. What is going on? Ted refuses to answer and walks out of the room. Not sure where he's going. Certainly not the bedroom because homeboy is sleeping on the couch tonight.
