Sutton and Ethan go on the lam... or should I say the foal? They hit up Ethan's dad Ben's horse farm on the reservation. Ben is none too happy to see his good-for-nothing son and makes that perfectly clear. He is also not happy that Sutton walks around like she owns the place, including but not limited to putting on Ethan's runaway mother's old clothes. While Ethan and Sutton take long, romantic horse rides, the cops visit. Ben covers for his son but also learns that Ethan is suspected of murder. Ben assumes the worst is true and, despite Ethan's protests of innocence, tells Ethan and Sutton to make tracks sooner rather than later. Sutton tries to stand up for Ethan, which only makes things worse, though they do bond over their long-lost mothers before the night is out.

Their departure leaves Emma in the weeds back in Tucson. First order of business: Squirm her way through detective's line of questioning about a fight between two people that Sutton was the only witness to. Unfortunately, it's "Sutton" (Emma) in the interrogation room. Considering she saw Ethan for a total of 15 seconds and literally has no idea what happened, she does an admirable job of covering her own ass. She does less well with Mads, who is still steamed about "Sutton" tattling on their lie-brary date. Emma tries to ask Ryan why he's so standoffish, and he vaguely mentions her inappropriate behavior at the Black and White Ball. She turns to Thayer, who exercises zero finesse in relaying all the scattered pieces to Mads. Mads turns back to Ryan, who admits Sutton hit on him. Gee whiz, it's like a game of telephone with these people. Sutton gives it one last go to sort it out with Mads, but all she gets is anger for all of her treacheries. Emma can no longer stand there and take it. She bursts out, "It was Sutton! Sutton did all those things to you. I'm not Sutton Mercer! I'm Emma Becker, her twin sister." Cue the silence and the blackness. From a normal person perspective, there's no way Mads will go for this without Thayer to vouch. From an ABC Family show perspective, God only knows where they're taking this mess next. Time will tell.

That leaves Laurel and Justin and Alec and Rebeccannie. Laurel is getting along famously with her new band, led by the guitar cutie (his name is Baz), and they have a gig. Everyone shows up, which makes for an awkward confrontation between Ted and Justin. Justin is smart enough to know that lying to the Mercers isn't going to give him long-term prospects with Laurel in the end run, but she points out that coming clean about her secret relationship with a formerly vindictive boyfriend won't exactly fly in the wake of both Mercer girls ostensibly getting betrayed by their other-side-of-the-tracks boyfriends. So that fuse is still sizzling.

Speaking of sizzle, Rebeccannie shows up just late enough in the ep to be a blip on the radar -- a slutty blip. She and Alec get it on like consenting, conspiring adults. Ted can sense he's being cheated on when he meets up for a golf date with Alec the next day, but Alec tells him to be happy because if Alec has sexual/emotional/nefarious control over Rebeccannie, then he also has control over that deep dark secret that continues to hang in the background. You've got four episodes to get your ducks in order, ABC Family. Don't pull a Rosie Larsen on us!
