That night, Emma finds Thayer at the golf club as he mentally preps for a meeting with the venture capitalist Alec set him up with to get his app off the ground. Emma asks Alec's whereabouts, lying that she has some legal questions to ask him for school. She also asks about Sutton, and Thayer says she's still MIA. He's not worried, though, mainly because Sutton's a wily bitch. Alec approaches, lurky and creepy as ever. He tells Thayer it's almost time for dinner. Thayer brings up "Sutton's" legal questions, and Alec invites her to dinner to ask them there. His phone is ringing, so he asks the kids to excuse him and watches them menacingly as they go. Once he picks up, it's Dr. Hughes, who informs him Annie has busted out of the psych ward.
In Vegas, "Emma" is shocked to learn how much bus tickets cost and tells Little Orphan Lexie that she can't ask for help from "Sutton" because the twins aren't on speaking terms at the moment. Little Orphan Lexie hands "Emma" a laundry basket of oversized, ugly clothes that Sutton wouldn't be caught dead in. She snaps a picture of "Emma's" stank expression, then assures her she can borrow freely from her and her mom's closets. At that moment, Little Orphan Lexie's mom walks in to say that Clarice is paying a visit. "Emma" goes to the living room to see the electric blue eye shadow-wearing, acid wash denim-clad hussy in the flesh. Clarice makes a big show of being a supportive mom who misses Emma, then the minute Little Orphan Lexie and her mom leave the room tears into "Emma" for cutting off her government paycheck. Sutton gives as good as she gets, the highlight of which is when she tells Clarice she smells "like an airport bathroom."
Golf club. Thayer gives the hard sell to the venture capitalist, who is ready to put his money where his mouth is -- not only regarding Thayer's app but also with Mads. As they chat, Mads spots Char dragging Derek in to the club to celebrate their 10-day anniversary. "It's kind of a big deal for her," she says, with only a little of bit of snark. Alec plays dumb, and "Sutton" archly points out the two of them have nebulously worked together. Alec meets her in the middle and swirls his scotch ominously. Changing the subject, he prompts "Sutton" to ask her supposed legal questions. She goes all in, asking how he knows when people are hiding something. He tells her there are usually a series of nonverbal clues that someone isn't being completely honest. As he's saying this, he drums his perfectly manicured fingers on his chair, and "Sutton" boldly calls him out on it. He grins through clenched teeth, "Like I said, it's not an exact science." He excuses himself to visit his locker and shoots Derek a pointed glance. They rendezvous in the hallway, where Alec tells Derek he's too distracted by his feelings for Char to be a useful mole and demands he break up with Char that minute. As he storms off, he intercepts Sutton and escorts her back to table as she looks at Derek shaking his head in the near distance.
