The next day at school, Emma catches up Ethan that Kristin is an ignorant pawn who doesn't even know Sutton has a twin. Ethan thinks Emma should fill Kristin in on the whole truth (or at least what she knows of it), but Emma thinks it would push Kristin to her breaking point. She worries she'll tear the family apart. Ethan notes that no one else seems concerned about lying through their UV-whitened teeth and wonders why Emma would be. She blurts out, "Because they're my family!" Wow. She's really lost herself in the game. Ethan tells her to stop worrying about others and prioritize herself.
Inside, Char briefs Mads on Annie's unexpected call. Lurking in the background, Derek overhears this and smiles to have something to report back to Alec.
At the Mercer house, Kristin tells Ted about her conversation with "Sutton." He reacts with seeming calm and promises not to stand in her way on the search for Sutton's birth mom. What about all those lying liars Ethan just mentioned?
And the greatest of them all is Alec, whose feathers are mightily ruffled when Derek shows up at his office. Derek cuts to the chase: He'll exchange the chance to reunite with Char for the juicy information he just learned. Alec laughs off this attempt at blackmail and threatens to reinstate Derek's possession charges. Derek says he'd rather go to jail than lose Char. Alec glares.
Meanwhile, the hot orderly from the psych ward calls Sutton (or "Emma" as he knows her) to inform her about Annie's escape and is most likely on the search for her. As she hangs up, Little Orphan Lexie struts up with newfound confidence after three guys from the casino party asked her out that morning. She wants to take one of them up on a party that weekend and invites "Emma" to come along. "Emma" tells her something's come up with her birth mom and says she'll have to return to Phoenix. Little Orphan Lexie says it'll be nice to get back to her own life and friends. Sutton agrees with a heavy sigh, then tries to cover for her slip-up. Little Orphan Lexie proves she's smarter than she seems, asking, "Come on, did you really think you were pulling this off, Sutton?"
