Night of the Living Dead

The next morning, Emma tries to sneak out of the house, but Ted spots her (and calls her "Danica Patrick," which is dated but still pretty funny). He and Kristin call her into the kitchen for a little talk about her future. She tries to brush it off, saying it was the stupidity of youth and offering to pay for everything. They tell her it's not about the money. Emma gets a text from Char ("HELP!!!") and says she has to go. They tell her the conversation isn't finished.

Emma arrives at the Chamberlin house to find empty wine bottles floating in the pool and Mads cleaning up. She joins in, fishing a bra out of the pool with the bottles, as Mads catches her up. Since Phyllis can't stand Kristin or Alec, Char is stuck at home without her wastrel of a mother. Though Char does note that Rebeccannie has really stepped up in all of this. They stop talking for a minute when they hear Char screaming at her mom to stay away. They agree it's a lot to handle for a teen.

Later, Emma arrives at school, where Laurel catches up to ask what the text was about. She doesn't believe the truth that it was Char and leaves in a huff. Mads joins Emma to discuss what they can do about Char when she spots Derek outside the school doors and gets a disgusted look on her face. He skulks away when he sees her, and Mads fumes, "That jerk breaks Char's heart and then just thinks he can strut around school like nothing happened?" Yeah, that's called being a teenager, nimrod. You can't just transfer every time you break up with someone (that you went out with for, like, 27 minutes.)

Emma runs after Derek and ropes him into one of those classic soap opera conversations where he thinks she knows his secret until realizing she's only talking about him being a douche to Char. He lets her dress him down then leaves at the first chance. Ethan comes up and asks, "What's going with Trans Am over there." Heh. Emma is all worked up, so he assures her things are going to be all right. She tells him, "You wouldn't be so relaxed if the note said you were next."

Golf club. Ted tries to see the bright side of "Sutton's" recent antics. He suggests it might just be the sign that she's returned to being a "typical teenager." As they walk and talk, they run in to Rebeccannie. Seeing her nervousness around Ted, Kristin tells Ted to take a hike. Once he's gone, Rebeccannie updates Kristin on the Phyllis situation. Kristin spots a club pamphlet in Rebeccannie's hand and asks if she's thinking about joining. Rebeccannie admits she doesn't have any friends in town since she's been gone so long, so Kristin offers to serve as an introduction to the community. Since they have such a wide social circle, including Alec and...? Kristin mentions that she and Ted have an anniversary coming up and wonders if Rebeccannie has any suggestions for a California getaway. Rebeccannie rattles off some destinations, but Kristin pushes for Santa Barbara (a.k.a. the place one of Ted's random drunk colleagues claimed to have seen Ted with Annie). Rebeccannie claims she's never been there, and Kristin eyes her suspiciously.
