Wing Chun: A+ | Grade It Now!

"If I Had Babies To Sell, Who Knows?"

BM: There's a little rivalry. They always say, "Oh, it's much busier out here than it is there." That kind of thing. Vancouver's mostly Sci-Fi Central -- Battlestar and Smallville and Supernatural.

WC: Stargate, what-have-you.

BM: Yeah, the Stargates. That's what they're known for. So if you want to do some American series and get that sort of notice, then yeah, you go there for a year or two. Here, it's more Lifetime or Hallmark MOWs, some really good features, and more Canadian series. I think there's only one Canadian series that shoots out there. Here, it's a little bit of everything. So there's a little bit of rivalry, but as bitter as Canadian rivalry gets. It's not cruel. If you have a client who's doing really well here -- monetarily and résumé-wise -- and they say, "Yeah, I think I want to spend some time in Vancouver!," it's a little hard to let them go. Luckily, we have an office out there, so we try to put them with the office out there. That's not always going to happen, but we try to keep that relationship so we can share.

WC: It also seems like there's more theatre in Toronto.

BM: Yeah, very little theatre out there. We have Stratford and Shaw, and Canstage and Tarragon and stuff.

WC: I guess I'll wrap up with the two obvious questions. Bad one first: what's crappy about your job?
