MONDO EXTRAS

Behind The Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Mork & Mindy

Robin stumbles home, wasted. He barely manages to unlock the door, and then falls backwards onto the staircase up to the second floor. Valerie is awake, and she descends the staircase in her pink blouse and her angriest face. She starts to tell him what an asshole he is, and that it's not working. He yells out, "You don't know what it's like. It's insane. Everyone wants a piece of me." I definitely did not ever want a piece of him. Val isn't taking any of his poor little rich boy crap, though -- she busts him for spending all his time with Belushi instead of with her. In Robin's defense, Belushi did have bigger tits than Val. Robin basically tells Val that he does prefer to spend his time with Belushi, because he can "relate" to Robin. I didn't know "relate" meant "shove drugs and whores in somebody's face." Val tells him that she can't stay with him in the empty house, and then grabs her very conveniently placed overnight bag and walks out.

A ratings chart shows us that Mork & Mindy has slipped to number 44. Frank answers the phone to take a call from Garry. Frank has just pulled the show's card off of the board, and seems prepared to drop it in the trash, but Garry starts to spin his ideas for saving the show, which basically involve bringing back Conrad and Elizabeth, dropping all the jiggle, and moving the show back to its original time slot. Frank agrees, although a shot of the board makes it clear that this means bumping Laverne & Shirley to some other time. See, Garry is well-meaning, but not too bright.

The director is chatting with Pam. He's trying to figure out how to get Robin to come out of his trailer and, you know, work. She eventually offers to talk to him.

Pam enters Robin's trailer and finds him crashed on the couch, curled up in a fetal position. He tells her that he can't go out to the set, and when she asks why, he tells her Val left. Yeah, we already saw that. Pam bends down to give him a hug. Because Pam is sweet, and she never ever got loaded. Commercials.

It's hiatus, according to the writers' board. According to a title, Robin is at the location for Popeye in Malta. It's 1980. Robin is sitting around in the Kasbah, chatting with Robert Evans. I never saw the show, but this actor looks just like the cartoon. Robin's having a blast, primarily because nobody actually wants to make him do anything. Evans tells him to enjoy his fame and fortune while he can, and then tells him that he thinks being single and rich is pretty fun. And then Evans goes to pick up some chicks for him and Robin. ["And then Sars sues Robin Williams because she saw Popeye in the theater, and has never quite recovered." -- Sars]
