MONDO EXTRAS
Emily Owens, Meryl's Daughter: Pilot Review
There's a very crowded elevator, so Emily Owens, Meryl's Daughter opts to take the stairs where she sees redheaded nurse and Tyra's dad making out in the stairwell. She goes back out and bumps into Micah who says she kicked ass in surgery. Yes. Putting your finger on something for 30 seconds is totally kicking ass. Micah goes into the mysterious room 501 where he said there was a woman with pancreatic cancer who only had a year to live before, and it's his mom. He has to break the bad news to her and tries to positively spin it for her. His mom was in the hospital fretting all day and he took the time out to go find a brand new intern in the stairwell because some nurse said she was eating too many Ring Dings? Are you serious? I may take back what I said about Micah being tolerable.
As Emily walks out of the hospital, she inner-monologues about being an adult and not being insecure anymore as she walks past all her patients cozily tucked in their rooms. She fumbles with her stethoscope on her way out of work, and the '80s teenager sees and asks if she's a doctor. When she gets an affirmative, she deems Emily Owens, Meryl's Daughter, "pretty cool." Who the hell cares? And what kind of relaxing work day does this surgeon have if she's keeping the same hours as a high school student? And then Emily Owens, Meryl's Daughter looks over and sees Dr. Will and Mean Girl flirting. Because that's not the most obvious direction they could have taken. Hey, some of those plastics girls were cute. Why not them?
And so ends the first terrible episode of this show, and since The CW is a network that has let America's Next Top Model live on forever, and clearly someone in Hollywood owes Meryl Streep a favor, this show will probably have many more awful episodes to come. We'd bet on at least a season's worth. On the plus side, it makes Hart of Dixie look like a masterpiece.
