Fall Pilot Season: A Gifted Man

Michael walks past the recovery rooms, dodging the poor mom and going into Lacey's room. She is really sad that she's going to be a 20-year-old hag soon and Michael is like, "Oh yeah, this is a way worse alternative to being dead." He leaves the room and the poor mom character is like, "Please help my son, the other neurosurgeon doing this for free isn't good enough," and then Rita is all, "Dr. Holt, fancy medical talk, Ron is dying at Beth Israel right now." And Michael is like, "Okay, universe. I get it, I'll help that dying boy."

Some time later, Michael is at the waterfront reading about Vinet's death when Anna sneaks up behind him and whispers sweet boos in his ears. Turns out the surgery on the boy went well. Anna tries to console him about Ron and Michael resists, but Anna is persistent about teaching Michael about the cycle of life. And Micheal is like, "Screw you, this is basically your fault." And Anna tells him he can't be a control freak doctor about everything and then he finally lets himself cry about Anna's death for the first time. He says he can't handle this ghost shit and calls Anton the shaman.

At the Anton house, which was expected to look like Kramer's shaman friend's apartment on Seinfeld, Michael participates in some sacred spiritual arts. He's skeptical but does it, and Anton creates a spiritual door for Anna to go through. He tells Michael to concentrate and they both see Anna. Michael is freaking -- because he doesn't think it will work, or because he doesn't want Anna gone, we don't know -- and Anton is really good at this. Michael talks to Anna and tries to say goodbye and Anna turns into an evil devil is like, "I AM NOT LEAVING!" -- okay that doesn't happen, but didn't you think that was what was going to happen? I got really scared! Michael and Anna talk and Anna is like, "I don't want to go away" and drives a hard bargain for him letting her live in his shoulder or whatever and brings up the point that once she goes, she's gone for good. Michael wakes himself up and tells Anton he's all set and that Anna is gone. Anton knows that Michael is lying to his face, and Michael is like, "Welp, guess I'm living with this ghost now," And Anna's all, "Oh man, I could really go for some Shake Shack right now. You driving?"
