Fathers Suck

Fathers And Sons

And now it's time for 1121 Caleb's Path Road. Some more sexy Latin music plays. Gale Harold is on a plane, looking a bit distraught. I hope Mahoney's not flying that plane. The woman sitting next to him starts to make flirtatious small talk. He tells her that he's flying home because his father is dying. She looks at him and says, "It must be so hard for you." I think he must have brought some writers over from Queer as Folk. He takes a breath, looks at her, and says, "It is." The sexy Latin music goes into overdrive.

Cut to Gale fucking the plane tramp in a hotel room. This is probably a good a time to say it as any -- Gale Harold is just not that attractive. He's the least attractive of all the regulars on Queer as Folk. Probably less attractive than the ugly kid who plays the former street hustler. And no matter how many times Showtime says otherwise, I just will not believe that he's all that.

Gale gets out of a cab in front of the family homestead. This house has a large porch, just like Wigford's house. I wonder if we'll ever be allowed to see the inside?

And we are. Gale's father is in a hospital bed in the living room. If this were the Wigfords', he'd just be laid out on the porch. Lisa Edelstein and Barbara Barrie are sitting by the bed. They don't give Gale an especially happy welcome. In fact, they just stare at him as he walks into the room. Probably because he's late. In fact, Lisa points out that he was due to arrive the previous night. I don't know why, but spending the night with some stranger he met on the plane instead of coming home seems much worse to me than just fucking her and running home. I guess selfishness is okay if it only causes a small detour. Barbara tells Gale that Dad has been soiling the bed. It makes it sound as though he's doing some gardening. Gale: "He's incontinent." Lisa: "Thanks for letting us know what it's called." I can already tell I'm going to like her.

Barbara vacuums the living room around the hospital bed. Lisa finally gets up from the couch and asks her to knock it off, pointing out that "it's practically antiseptic in here as it is." Which is probably actually a good quality in a sickroom. Gale asks if Dad has been lucid, and Barbara says that she doesn't think there would be any way to tell the difference. And then Dad wakes up and tells Gale that he looks like his son. Gale tells him that he is his son, and Dad beckons him over with his finger. The sexy Latin music starts up again. Is Gale going to jump his father's bones? He doesn't. It turns out that the sexy music was to cue us in to the fact that Dad was going to fuck with Gale's mind; as Gale leans in to hear him, his father asks, "Are you still a selfish bastard?"
