MONDO EXTRAS

Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers

Ben takes a phone call from his boss, who is complaining that Fiona's deal fell through. Ben tells off his boss and hangs up. Whew! I am glad that storyline is resolved. I was all worried. Except not. Ben tells his parents that Richie and Fiona have dropped out of the sale, and everyone cheers and celebrates.

Jason and Chrissy walk outside. Chrissy says that once they kicked Mickey out of the band, they got signed. Jason teases her about "gigs," and then hands over the keys to the RV so that she can travel safely on her upcoming tour. Wouldn't the label provide transportation? They hug. It's the last segment. There are a lot of hugs.

Everyone gathers around Carol and her new baby boy, Seaver Malone Johnson. Malone is Maggie's maiden name. They didn't say that. I just knew it. See, she used her maiden name when she worked as a TV reporter. And also her dad was played by Gordon Jump, which was creepy because he played a child molester on Diff'rent Strokes. Anyway, Maggie says that their job is done and everyone coos over the baby, who actually looks like a newborn, unlike the toddlers they usually get to play newborns on TV. I wonder if that's Tracey Gold's actual baby. Nah, he looks sober.

Maggie and Jason arrive back at their house, which is now empty. They discuss how many things they still have to pay for, like the RV and the villa, and the hole in the garage. And then they do it. No, really.

The closing montage features Chrissy and her band in their RV, Carol working from home while Scott brings the baby into the nursery, and Ben leading fishing expeditions. Oh, no. Chrissy's band is playing the theme song.

In the end, the entire family gathers at the villa in Tuscany (and how did they afford to fly everyone out?) for a holiday meal outside. I think the kid playing Mike's son must be someone's kid in real life, because he gets a lot of close-ups. And over the closing credits, there's another segment of people taking food out of the fridge at the Seaver homestead.
