MONDO EXTRAS

Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers

Jason and Maggie arrive home. Jason immediately spills the beans about Mike's move to Tokyo, adding that Kate doesn't know yet. Jason also thinks that Ben is selling them out, and wonders where his kids got the idea that work is more important than family. Fiona pops in and says that they found termites. She continues with a litany of complaints about the house, and wonders how the Seavers raised a family in that house. Mike thinks maybe the house isn't right for them. Fiona says that the Seavers have to fix the house, or the deal will fall apart. Maggie flashes back to signing the contract on the villa in Tuscany and being told that there are no refunds. She promises that they'll fix it all. Jason agrees. Fiona is appeased. For now.

Then there's a late-breaking news interruption with important information about the union negotiations with my local gas and electric company. Thrilling! When we return to the show, Mike has somehow fallen through the unfinished floors in his house and ended up in the basement. His phone rings, and it's Kate, who seriously needs to learn what a vacation is. The Russian floor guy promises that he'll fix the problem, but Mike gets a brilliant idea and says that the floor guy is needed somewhere else.

Chrissy does laundry at her parents' house. Maggie walks in and asks if they can have a little girl talk. Fiona and Arnold Exterminator pop in as well. Maggie asks when they're going to meet this Mickey fellow. Before Chrissy can answer, the exterminator pulls out a white rat. Fiona screams. Chrissy realizes that it's her pet rat from the third grade. Do rats have that long a lifespan? Chrissy thinks maybe the rat could be her ring bearer, and Maggie spins around, shocked that her daughter is betrothed. Chrissy and her excessive orange blush say that she's an adult, and that she just wants Maggie to be happy for her.

Mike's Russian contractors are now working on the Seaver homestead. Jason is upset about Chrissy's impending nuptials. Mike assures him that it'll be fine. Jason complains about the workers' taking a break, and Ben and Mike reassure him. Ben reminds Jason of The Plan. Ben has a fantasy about winning some real estate award, like, what a boring fantasy. Jason wants to prolong escrow, but Ben says Jason will have to pay for a rush job. Ben thanks Mike for his help in finding the contractors.

In the bathroom, the sink is all plugged up. Jason argues with the Russian plumber while Carol watches and smirks.

Carol finds some grout and pipe in the garage. She picks up an ax, and Jason asks when she got into home improvement. Carol thinks that if she's going to be a stay-at-home parent, she needs to learn about home repair, and shrug off traditional gender roles. Yeah, like the idea that the mother has to be the one to stay at home. Jason suggests that Carol learn to delegate. Carol thinks this is a great time to propose that her parents raise her child so that she can work.
