Intervention: “Gabe And Vanessa”

The tinkly intervention music carries us back to Joe, walking along with Gabe, who tells him he thinks Joe should live where they are, since it's right next to a liquor store. Sure, Gabe, mock other people's vices. You're certainly totally entitled to do that.

Vanessa puts a clock back on her nightstand.

BSOSF: "Gabe and Vanessa do not know they are moments away from their interventions."

Joe and Gabe enter a building.

Vanessa's friends walk up the hall outside her apartment.

BSOSF: "There will be only one demand. Enter rehab tonight, or we will cut off our relationship with you."

Vanessa's friends knock on her door. Tinkle tinkle!

Gabe and Joe walk through a courtyard.

BSOSF reminds us again that Gabe and Vanessa aren't in on the whole intervention thing.

Someone unseen opens a door to Gabe.

Everyone barges into Vanessa's; she's excited and shocked to see them, and immediately starts crying as Laura hugs her.

We switch to a shot from inside the room to which Gabe was just granted entrance; as he sees the camera, it looks as though he immediately figures out what is going on. The camera, in fact, freezes on a shot of his stunned face as we hear his voice screech, "What?!"

Vanessa's. Dr. Fields gives her the lowdown.

At Gabe's intervention, Jeff says that Gabe doesn't have to trust him, but that he should know they're not going to try to trick him into anything, and that Jeff doesn't have handcuffs and isn't a cop. Gabe, already flushing and planning his escape, calmly says he knows.

Dr. Fields tells Vanessa that, never having met her before, she's convinced that Vanessa has "a serious addiction, and that it's compulsive shopping." Vanessa sniffles.

Jeff tells Gabe that his family feels that they're losing him, and that they want to fight to get him back. I would say the problem is that they haven't lost him, but it's nice of Jeff to put it that way.

Laura says they just want Vanessa to be happy. Vanessa cries.

Gabe -- using all of his energy to hold it together and engage with everyone as an adult and not a hysterical, hand-flapping girl -- reminds us of how erudite and wise he is, after all: "I've read about these kinds of interventions before. I read where they did one where this guy...well, he killed himself anyway. So." Wow, that was subtle. Where did you read that, Imaginary Threats...Uh, Digest? Laurie blows right by that, asking Gabe if he knows how much they love him. Gabe blinks.

Vanessa's friends are still shrilly telling her that they didn't realize how out-of-control her shopping had become. Vanessa looks embarrassed.
