You Down With OCD?

Intervention: “Gabe And Vanessa”

Getting ready to leave her apartment, Vanessa checks that everything is "off, off, off." Dr. Fields asks if she's ready to leave; she is.

Jeff tries to jolly Gabe along, telling him they should get in the car, go to the airport, and "start making this go away." Gabe is silent for a moment, and then asks his parents whether he has their word that they will "help take care of these issues, as best you can." He sure knows how to dress up a statement to look like he isn't just sitting there with his mooching sack out, doesn't he? "As best I can," Irv agrees. Gabe presses, "Is it going to be PAID IN FULL with PROOF of CASH PAYMENT?!" Irv, disgusted: "No, I'm not going to pay that." Gabe looks like he might start bawling any second, and accuses Irv, "You told me you would! And you told the bank!" Irv says that was because Gabe told Irv he didn't have any money -- not even the secret two grand Joe (awesomely) totally outed him for. "THAT'S NOT TRUE!" Gabe screams, as though he is a reliable witness, but has no follow-up in his own defense. Laurie and Irv talk over each other over how badly Gabe needs help. Jeff asks Laurie if they can make some effort to ensure that going to rehab won't leave Gabe even further in the hole than he is now, and Laurie agrees. "Can you make it happen that it's going to be PAID?" Gabe demands, because, like Dr. Fields, he can't help overclosing, and also because he doesn't even want to consider the possibility of having to shift for himself at a hypothetical future time post-rehab, and wow. Jeff tells Gabe, "Well, no," and Gabe rears up and demands AGAIN, SOME MORE, that his parents assure him that they're just going to pay this money for him and leave him free and clear: "I need to know! Because I can't live with these things hanging over my head anymore!" Irv very sadly points out to Gabe that he does these things to himself, and can't he see that? "JUST DO WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO!" Gabe screams. "Don't you see that you do this to yourself?" Irv asks. "OF COURSE I DO!" yelps Gabe, who doesn't. Laurie undermines Jeff right in freaking front of him (which...well, you'll see) by asking Gabe whether, if his parents just pay what they had previously said they would before his lying ass was exposed, he'll go to rehab. "Yes," Gabe says immediately. Laurie tells Jeff that, in that case, they're satisfied. Gabe's learned nothing.

Nevertheless, the cheery clip-clop music starts up. Jeff leaps up before Gabe can reverse himself.
