MONDO EXTRAS

Spring Break Bug Attack

by LTG May 4, 2005
Locusts

Peter is in his car, driving to Pittsburgh. He hasn't found time to go through the carwash, by the way -- his windshield is still covered with bug juice. He's on the phone to Wyatt, trying to get a weather update for Pittsburgh, but Wyatt just tells him that he can't speak to him any more and hangs up.

Back in the Office Tower of Doom, O.H. #1 and O.H. #2 are eating their lunch and gossiping about Karl, the Polo-Wearing Stud. O.H. #2 thinks that Karl is practically sexually harassing her, what with the way he hangs around her cubicle all the time and compliments her outfits. Oh, honey -- that's not sexual harassment. That's just a fag looking for a hag. But she doesn't mind being sexually harassed by him, since he and his polo shirt are so cute. And then Karl walks up and tells O.H. #2 that he wants a word with her in the conference room.

Out at Pittsburgh International Airport, a couple of freight pilots exchange banter with the crew who loaded their plane as they walk across the tarmac.

Office Tower of Doom. Karl and O.H. #2 walk into the conference room, which is full of people. Somehow, O.H. #1 made it there ahead of them. They all yell out "surprise" -- it's O.H. #2's birthday. Leather Bracelet calls her on acting surprised, since everybody gets a cake on their birthday. We get our first real close-up of Karl -- I'm 99% certain he's wearing lipstick. As O.H. #2 blows out the candles on the cake, O.H. #1 notices something outside the window. It's the swarm of locusts, looking like some kind of funky cloud from a distance.

In the control tower at the airport, an air traffic controller notices something on the radar and asks his supervisor, Ruby, to take a look. She thinks it looks like a localized storm cloud, and tells him to divert flights around it. He advises the freight pilots that they're going to have to alter their takeoff route to avoid the cloud.

Peter and his nasty car pull off the road just outside the airport. He's on his cell, trying to deal with the airport's automated telephone system.

Back in the Office Tower of Doom, everyone is gathering near the windows to check out the funky cloud. We get a shot of the skyline from a distance and then -- AAARGH! We get a bug's-eye view of the swarm as it descends on the city. And then, splat!, the first wave of locusts hits the windows.

Down in the park, people are running and screaming. Some guy goes right over the top of a hotdog cart.

In the O.T. of D., O.H. #1 talks about how much she hates bugs: "I am so out of here." Leather Bracelet points out that she really doesn't have anywhere to go, and then he reassures her that the bugs can't get in the building.
