Do You Believe in Magic?

Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story

16 January 2004. I'm about to get totally fired and I don't even know it. I'm on a business trip in San Diego working 19-hour days. Some reporter is talking about how Michael might be in jail for his whole life. Floating Head of Diana Ross for no reason -- which, I know, but there's, like, even less reason than usual. More supportive fans. Michael is indicted on four counts of lewd acts with a child and four counts of intoxicating for the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit child abduction, imprisonment, and extortion. Yikes. Floating Head of Diana Ross AGAIN and she says all that crap from the very beginning and this movie just fell apart right before my eyes. But there's more, there's always more. Flashback to these scary, scary psycho shots of Joe and Tinkerbell and shit, and Floating Head is all, "Only you can decide, Michael. Listen to your own heart!" His own heart tells him to climb on top of a car and stand there like a crazy person or a statue of a crazy person. The screen goes white. Floating Head of Diana Ross won't shut the hell up. It's irritating. People start yelling that they love him, but other people stare at him with some hate and some fear. It's kind of like a lukewarm, sucky version of the ending of the awesome Martha Stewart movie. Except it still isn't fucking over. Michael embiggens the cromulence with a voice-overed speech of nonsense.

"I believe we all live in a world of fear because deep inside we all want something better or something more loving and we're so afraid of not getting it I know this because I have felt fear all my life but today I am the man in the mirror I look at myself and I make a change I make a choice and I choose that I will no longer give in to fear I will fight these charges I will not settle I will not give money to my accusers I will take a stand and I will not be afraid because I realize that I am not alone I realize that you are with me and you have shown me again and again that in the end love is more powerful than fear so today I choose love and I choose to believe in myself the way that you believe in me so I say thank you."

"I love you. God bless you." The crowd goes all kinds of crazy. The screen-talk says that Michael denied everything, and that his trial begins in January 2005. I have joined the cast of Best Week Ever and my second novel is so popular they've had to move it to the Billboard charts because there wasn't any room left for other books on the book lists and people were trying to run over me all the time. Bite me, Sean Hannity. Faces of kids Michael may or may not have molested flash on the screen, or something. Faces faces faces. Emotionless, meaningless, faces faces faces. Some of them have disabilities. A LOT of them have facial piercings. There's some asshole white guy with Maori face tattoos. So many faces. Why? The end. Whatever. I don't get it. But I know one thing. That movie? That was a movie that rocked.
