MONDO EXTRAS

Are you kidding us with this?

Riding the Bus with My Sister

In bed, Rachel looks at more photos. Oh, I can see the guilt creeping in. Don't do it! Put her in a home! Flashback to mom and Beth meeting Rachel as her school bus pulls up. Beth gives Rachel a big hug and Rachel says, "Don't!" Mom tells her that Beth will always be in plain sight as part of their family and that they'll never put her in an institution, so Rachel might as well stop being embarrassed. Except that they did put her in an institution, and Beth is just kind of embarrassing, so why feel bad about everything now? Present-day Rachel sighs, and then looks at more photos from her wedding dress shoot. She picks the mug out of the trash and sets it on the counter next to some more orchids. I sense the beginning of an emotional breakthrough! Commercials, and blessedly they are promos for CBS shows, so I can take a little breather.

When we return, Rachel goes to the bus drivers' lounge looking for Beth. She runs into the Indian/Pakistani driver, whose name is Pradlub, and he tells her that she's in the park with Jesse. He says he thought Rachel went home, and that Beth will be happy to see her. It's never too late for a second chance! In the park, Jesse is showing Beth his Tae Kwon Do moves while she adds running commentary. I wonder if the other actors in this film were just hideously embarrassed every time they had to play a scene opposite Rosie, much as we are hideously embarrassed every time we have to watch one. She puts together a bunch of cookies and says she's making a cookie mountain. I wonder if that was an ad-lib. Jesse is first to notice Rachel. Beth says hello and points out Jesse's black belt. He says he could have gone forward, and Beth adds that going forward would have involved swords and knives, so Jesse mastered the basics to build his confidence. "I...I didn't have none o' that," says Jesse. And I will admit to finding Jesse a bit endearing, but it's likely because he's so quiet in comparison to freaking Beth. ["It may also be because the man is hot." -- Sars] Rachel takes some photos of Jesse doing his moves as jaunty music plays. Beth looks on and then offers Rachel a picture of cookie mountain. Rachel takes it and laughs.

At Beth's apartment, Rachel cancels her shoot in Mexico. Judging from how quickly Rachel gets back and forth, it seems that her big city home isn't really that far away from where Beth lives. Rachel tells the person on the phone that she has to take care of some things, and an eavesdropping Beth yells that she's not a thing. Rachel says she'll be gone from a few weeks to a month. She asks Beth where she can put her stuff, and Beth says that Rachel can't stay there tonight because she has a date with Jesse. And then, in her worst retarded voice to date, she says, "We're gonna come back here. Gonna watch Animal Planet. Gonna have some snow cones and we're gonna be fooling around. Hmm hmm hmm." And then the following morning will be filled with the sounds of, "Jessseeeeee! I burned the sauuuuuusages!" I feel so gross right now. Beth says that it's not a good time, and Rachel says that she broke up with her boyfriend because of Beth. And that's not exactly true. It was because she's a cold, selfish, baby- and retarded-sister-hater. Rachel says that she cares, and that she wants to be a better sister. Beth gets quiet. Rachel says that Sam, a.k.a. Welsh boyfriend, was kind and funny and wanted to marry her, and that she loved him. Beth says that the whole situation is sad...for Rachel. Rachel says that yes, it is. Beth agrees to let Rachel come to dinner with her and Jesse if she pays. Rachel says that's very generous of her.
