MONDO EXTRAS

Are you kidding us with this?

Riding the Bus with My Sister

Back at the apartment, Rachel makes dinner in a crock-pot. She wonders where Jesse is, since dinner is almost done. Meanwhile, Jesse rides his bike through what appears to be a sketchy dark alley. If it is full-on nighttime, one might suspect that they are eating dinner awfully late. A manhole steams as Jesse is, quite naturally, attacked by members of the Jets who try to steal his backpack and beat him up. And I mean the West Side Story Jets, and not the 1980s singing family who we found out had a crush on us. But little do they know that they have attacked Handi-man, as Jesse busts out some sweet Tae Kwon Do moves. Sadly, we don't get to see who wins the fight.

Back at the apartment, Beth knows that something is wrong when Jesse doesn't show up. She yells some, and the two go to Jesse's apartment. He is not there, which leads to more yelling and crying. The women call Rick, and then end up at the hospital. Rick is waiting there. Beth notes that this was the hospital where Daddy died. She then sees Jesse, who is getting patched up. He apologizes for ruining supper. Beth says not to worry, and that Rick is going to beat up the "bad boys" who attacked Jesse. Rick looks at the shamed and slightly beat-up guys and says he doesn't think so. I think that Jesse might have won the fight. Jesse tells Beth that the bad guys don't know better, and don't know right from wrong. Beth rambles about not putting Jesse in the ground like they did her daddy, and Rachel over-enunciates that it's okay because Jesse's "Not. Going. To die." Beth says that he will, because it's a fact that everybody dies. Ah, the wisdom of the slow. But Jesse is not dying today, and Beth is going to take him home and take care of him. Rachel, whose southern accent is coming out more and more as the movie progresses, asks the doctor if it isn't better for Jesse to go to his own home to rest. The doctor plays along. Jesse doesn't know what he wants to do. Beth finally relents, and then delivers another one of her great quotes for the night: "Don't please don't go out at nighttime I telled you five or seven tiiiiiiimes." Do you wanna deviled egg, Jessseeeeeee?

When Rachel wakes up the following morning, Beth is busy in her room. WRITING CARDS. Jesus. She says there's nothing else to do. She's mad at Rachel because Jesse couldn't come over and sleep at her place. Rachel appreciates that Beth didn't turn on the TV and wake her up. Beth replies that Rick said she couldn't. Rachel asks if Beth is upset with her. Beth says, "I don't know-ah." Which apparently means a whole different thing than the "I don't kno-ow" that Rachel and Rick discussed earlier. I mean, come on. Rachel says she thought Beth liked having her there, and Beth replies, "I like it when you leave." Burn! Rachel says she's going to take a shower and Beth says, "I can't stop you," which Rachel takes offense to for some reason. Beth says that Jesse and Rick and everyone like Rachel. "What about me, what about Beth?" she asks. And really, the last thing she needs to do now is start speaking in the third person. Oh, I am weary. Rachel says again that she's going to get a shower and Beth says, "I can't stop you," which I still don't understand. Rachel snaps. She says, in full Scarlett O'Hara dialect, "I am sick of this. Sleeping on the couch. Takin' your buses, givin' up my job to be here with you." And then, you guessed it: "Sometimes I just hate you." Whatever, sometimes I hate her too. Rachel apologizes and says it was a horrible thing to say. Beth says, "You say you did." Rachel says she hates Beth's behavior when she's rude. And she's wearing some sort of stretchy black thing that makes her look like she's pregnant. Rachel walks out, and Beth gets mad and yells and throws her card-making tools.
