When Sharks Occasionally Attack

by Sara M April 2, 2005
Spring Break Shark Attack

JT, Lindsay, and the friends make their way to the boat, wearing their best sailing bikinis. Doesn't Alicia have something better to do? Like look for her boyfriend? Or get eaten by a shark? Everyone gets on the boat, and Lindsay apologizes to Shane (PSC: 1,233,675) for her behavior last night. Shane says it's cool, even though I thought annoying drunk girls weren't his scene. And here comes Dad! He grabs Lindsay's arm and demands that she come home with him right now. As JT and the friends look on and try not to laugh, Lindsay tells Dad to stop trying to control her. Then she goes off on this rant about how she doesn't like some of her dad's decisions, but she has to live with them, along with her mother and Danny. Dad hilariously responds with a very serious "this is neither the time nor the place." Lindsay turns around and gets on the boat, and says that her dad can't stop her. Wow, Lindsay sure is proving how adult she is with her petulant child behavior.

Just in case you forgot what this movie was supposed to be about, a shark swims by.

We're back on the boat now, and Alicia and Karen are tanning and discussing Max's video. Karen wonders where women who flash their boobs on camera come from. "Hell," says Alicia. Huh. I thought it was New Jersey. Sars, you can insert your bracketed comment about how fired I am for making fun of Jersey girls right here. ["It is in fact New Jersey, so you're off the hook this time." -- Sars] Karen tells Alicia that she doesn't have to act so tough and angry all the time, as if this were some sort of character trait of Alicia's that had been established earlier. "It's okay to be sad," Karen Dr. Phils. She asks Alicia what she's going to do to Max for cheating on her. Alicia says she will always wave her finger in his face, and something else about showing Max what a real girl unleashed looks like. "I'll bring a camera to that," Karen responds. Karen and Alicia might be boring and lame, but they're still cooler than the company they keep.

On the other side of the boat, JT hands Lindsay a beer from his cooler. She turns it down. JT tells her not to let her dad ruin her good time. Shane sits in the background, using a huge knife to cut off pieces of apple like a total stud. JT tells Lindsay he's going to show her how to have a good time, and he takes off his shirt and dives off the boat. Lindsay doesn't want to swim, though. Neither does Shane. What's the point of going in the water when you're already a wet blanket, right? JT swims back to the boat. Lindsay gives him a hand back up, and, of course, gets pulled into the water. She surfaces and yells at JT for being so well-meaning as to try to make her feel better after the fight with her dad. I know that JT is a rapist, but Lindsay looks like a real bitch right now. Karen and Alicia jump into the water, because they know how to have fun, while some Duncan Sheik plays.
