The Fox Fall Press Junket: Reality Shows

Lindsey: [laughs] It's kinda hard 'cause you have to work in a bar to make tips and your parents can't help you out all the time. So it's hard to just focus on music and meet the right people. But you definitely see me grow, and I push myself to meet the right people and introduce myself to the right people and just try to shine and get people to work with me. And now I've developed a great team around me -- I'm so thankful. We're gonna be recording very soon. Actually, a couple songs are written by John Rich and Gretchen Wilson, so--

Sara M: Oh, wow.

Lindsey: -- I've been very fortunate. And as soon as they're done, we're gonna be puttin' 'em up on my MySpace, so I hope everybody listens to 'em. I hope the songs get embraced 'cause I'm really happy. I love the songs.

Sara M: Who's your favorite musician?

Lindsey: Um...wow...I've always been a big Pat Benatar fan --

Sara M: Oh yeah?

Lindsey: Pat Benatar and Heart are my big rock influences.

Sara M: That's...awesome, actually.

Lindsey: And John Rich and Gretchen Wilson. Especially Big and Rich, they're very country rock and you know, I love their sound, I love how when they get on stage they completely rock it out. They give you a show and that's the kind of music I want to do so when I'm up on stage, people have a blast.

Sara M: Play any instruments?

Lindsey: Unfortunately, not very well. I play a little bit of piano, a little bit of guitar. Mostly just when I'm writing to get my songs out there a little bit. I grew up in theatre, so dancing and singing [were] more my focus.

Sara M: I notice you've got a little music note tattoo on the top of your foot.

Lindsey: I've had that for like a year and a half now.

Sara M: I'll you what, that's a painful place to get a tattoo so it says a lot about your commitment to music.

Lindsey: Yeah, that's how much I love music. Take the pain.

Speaking of pain, Nashville has since been "temporarily" taken off the Fox fall schedule as of September 27. Yet to premiere is The Next Great American Band, and I got to speak with John "no longer going by Johnny, apparently" Rzeznick and Sheila "the E stands for awEsome" E, who will star as judges on the show. While John's band's music may have been too overplayed and soft rocky for my personal tastes (which are probably questionable anyway), he was a really nice guy in person. And you can't deny that his songs are catchy. I've had that fucking "Slide" song in my head for like five days straight now.

Sara M: If this show had been around when your band was coming up, would you have done it?

John: Um...I don't know. It depends, you know, if we were working really hard and trying to get a break and weren't getting anywhere, sure. I set my own personal deadline for myself as far as, you know, I gotta go finish college and get a real job and a real life, you know? I think I would've done it, yeah, why not? It's a Battle of the Bands in a way.
