Mayim Bialik Graces Saving Grace With Her Presence
TWoP: But you definitely wanted to go back to acting instead of staying in the science or academic world?
Bialik: Yeah, for our parenting style, me working wasn't going to be compatible with how we wanted to raise kids. There's other stuff people can do in the sciences, but ultimately if you want to be with your kids for a large portion of the time, the professional world is very difficult. You know, when it comes to neuroscience.
TWoP: I imagine that's a fairly competitive field.
Bialik: Yeah, and it usually involves being in an adult world for most of your day and not with your child. So again, it is just a personal choice, I don't think it's not the right choice for other people. That's what we decided.
TWoP: So are you hoping to find sort of a long-term kind of role or are you liking guest-starring so far?
Bialik: Honestly, if someone were to write me a fantastic show about a quirky woman who you know, has her own show, that would be great. But at this point I'm sort of just taking whatever comes and going on auditions and just doing my best. I guess we'll just see, but TV is like the new film. It used to be that if you were on a sitcom you couldn't get work in film because it was so different. Now it's almost like you have to be on TV to do other film work. It's a very different industry, and last time I was involved I was pretty much a kid so I'm really learning. And its wonderful that I have good people that are helping me through it, because my mom was helping me last time, and she's not helping me now. It's just you learn different things and I obviously don't have much fashion sense, so I'm getting help with that.
TWoP: So Blossom recently came out on DVD.
Bialik: Yes, the first two seasons.
TWoP: Is it weird to see that again?
Bialik: Um... I choose not to watch it, so I guess the answer to that is "yes."
TWoP: I keep seeing the fashions and I can't even imagine what it is like for you to re-watch them.
Bialik: Yeah, no I really don't. I saw most of the first two seasons but I don't think I watched any of the third, fourth, or fifth seasons. I just never felt the need to see them when they were done. My older son doesn't watch TV, so I'm assuming at some point we'll show him, but it's kind of like that thing on the shelf.
