Showalter Explains It All

LB: You said you were playing with one of your students. Are you still teaching a screenwriting class?

MS: Yeah. Well, right now we are on break, but I do teach a class at NYU. We'll be starting again when the semester begins.

LB: And I heard that The State is planning a reunion movie. Is that still in the works?

MS: Yes. We're all getting back on the same page and getting to know each other again. It's going really well.

LB: That's exciting. There's a rumor that it is going to be about American history.

MS: That is correct.

LB: Are you a big American history buff?

MS: No. Not at all.

LB: So you just thought it was a good subject?

MS: Yeah. Everyone knows a little something about American history and it seemed like a good subject.

LB: That's true. And what about Stella?

MS: Well, there's nothing going on with that specifically, but I imagine we are going to do some stuff together in the next few months.

LB: Do you think it's going to be for Comedy Central again or MTV?

MS: Well, no. Until the writer's strike is over we can't do anything like that.

LB: Oh, right. And didn't you have a few pilots on Comedy Central? Are those on hold too?

MS: I have one pilot that is on hold. With Michael Black. But it hasn't been made yet. We had a project we were going to start working on together but then the strike happened and it's on hold now.

LB: I just read your interview with MTV's new sketch comedy group Human Giant on Best Week Ever.com. Do you think they're ever going to give you the props you deserve?

MS: No. No. I don't. I think they officially made it clear that they have no respect. They just don't respect The State for the mark we made on sketch comedy.

LB: I think you're right. So we should do something about it. We should take it to the people or something.

MS: Like a vote?

LB: Yeah. We could put that to a vote. I'll work on that.

MS: Great.

LB: You've had roles on great shows including Sex and the City and Law & Order. Is there any other show you would like to be on?

MS: Uh. Hmm. No. I can't give you a real answer.
