Painkiller Jane was described as their first "kick-ass superhero series." Are they trying to say Black Scorpion was not kick-ass? Tsk. Howe also implied that, at some unspecified time in the future they will have something to say about their upcoming Flash Gordon "reimagining" that isn't totally vague.

Howe also announced that there'd be another season of Who Wants To Be a Superhero? this summer, and then had to wait until people stopped applauding and going "Woohoo!" about it. I mean, sure, it was much better than it sounded, but I would not go so far as to shout "Woo!" about it. Oh yeah, and "the irrepressible Major Victory" will be hosting a show on SciFi Pulse where he interviews people who get bumped off the show. I'm not sure that interviewing is playing to Major Victory's strong points. The entertainment value may depend on whether the interviewees play along with his shtick. I just have to quote this bit from the press materials: "The thrill of Victory meets the agony of defeat ." Ow.

Then Howe talked about two unscripted shows, neither of which was described very clearly. One features Derren Brown, who was repeatedly described as a "mentalist," which I found particularly funny, since Howe is British and...well, "mentalist" has a different connotation in the UK. Maybe it was intentional. Anyway, apparently Brown does not claim to have psychic powers à la John Edward, but he is going to BLOW YOUR MIND. Somehow. Oh, and the clips featured Brown telling someone, "I'm not hypnotizing you; I'm placing you in a state of heightened synchronicity." I swear. He said that. However, while writing this up, I watched another little promo clip where Brown basically walks up to someone asking for: directions, his watch, his mobile phone, and his house keys. And Brown keeps the guy so distracted with questions that he hands over everything without asking why, and then walks away. I won't say it blew my mind, but the show may be more interesting than the hype would suggest.

Destination Truth was described even less clearly, but it seems to feature a guy named Josh Gates, who goes around debunking goofy legends. So, Ghost Hunters meets In Search Of. And, judging from the promo clips maybe a little of The Blair Witch Project. Like, the first half-hour, when they're just giggling at each other a lot.

Howe also mentioned that Kiefer Sutherland is producing a pilot called Phenomenon (do dooo du do-doo). It's about "a crack team of experts, led by a mysterious young female prodigy, as they investigate bizarre and supernatural anomalies of nature." It seems like maybe the show should be called Phenomena unless it's the same anomaly every week. Howe stumbled over Sutherland's name, which he blamed on the booze. Which got him a nice laugh, but since he didn't follow that up by diving into a Christmas tree, Howe was still far more sober than Sutherland usually is.
