"Jason Is So Much Like A Sister To Me"

The Will Arnett Interview

I have mysterious connections who are connected, mysteriously, to Fox's cult hit Arrested Development, which is about to wrap up its marvelous second season. And when I heard from several sources that Will Arnett visited TWoP's Arrested Development forum on a frequent basis, I implored our mutual friend to get me an interview. I played the Canadian card, saying that Arnett could either oblige me, his fellow Canadian, by agreeing to an interview, or I could alert the proper authorities and have him extradited back here, where he would be forced to marry a man. Hey, it's not me saying it: that's the law. Fortunately, it didn't come to that. Arnett and I spoke by phone about his Toronto childhood, his early work, his current critical TV series, and his lovely bride, Ms. Amy Poehler. And he was amazingly patient, especially considering that it took me several minutes to get the tape recorder working...possibly because it contained no batteries. (I...am not competent.)

Wing Chun: I guess I can start with my actual questions --

Will Arnett: Let me ask you a couple of questions about TV Without Pity.

WC: Certainly! Happy to answer any questions you have.

WA: So who's this "Glark" guy that I keep hearing about?

WC: That's my husband.

WA: Reeeeally?

WC: Yes.

WA: Interesting.

WC: Where do you keep hearing about him?

WA: Uh, at TV Without Pity.

WC: Oh, on the boards. I see.

WA: No, no, on the -- yes, I guess, but more on theeee...front thing there, like -- I can't think what it was.

WC: On the homepage? In the ads, you mean?

WA: Maybe it's in an ad.

WC: For Glarkware?

WA: Yeah. Yes.

WC: Yeeees. That's our apparel company.

WA: Awesome.

WC: Yes. Which is, that's 100% run out of Toronto.

WA: Oh, awesome. That's really cool; I had no idea that you guys were based out of Toronto.

WC: Much as you are from Toronto.

WA: Yes.

WC: Did you live here your whole life before you moved to L.A. to be a TV star?

WA: No, I lived there until I was twenty, and then I moved to New York. I come out here to work on the show, but we keep our home in New York.

WC: I think I just read that you had bought a house in New York. It must be hard if you're not there all the time to decorate and everything.
