TV Bigshot: TWoP Staff Picks

Network name: The PotesBS Network

Four or five years ago, my office started a fantasy football league. Being from Pittsburgh, I of course enjoy football, but not to the extent that I, like, know what any of the positions are or who plays for what team. And I CERTAINLY do not understand the point scoring system of fantasy football. That part of my brain was occupied long ago, when I memorized the words to "Mmm Bop." But my friend Joanne encouraged me to play, and I did mostly because it meant I would get to do a lot of trash talking, and then I ended up winning the whole thing! I owed it all to my strategy of picking players with funny names (which, given the NFL, afforded me a lot of options). But looking back, there was actually some internal logic working underneath this strategy of ostensible ignorance. And I am going to use that strategy, outlined below, to play TV Bit Shot, and kick everyone's ass.

1. Pick One Guy Who's Really, Really Good
Four years ago, I thought "Culpepper" was a really funny name. It was also the name of someone who would score me a million points each week. Who knew? I want the same million points each week from a really high-rated show that isn't Grey's Anatomy, and thus take CSI ($134M) for my starting lineup. And as soon as American Idol is available, I'm doing some buying and selling.

2. Show Some Respect For The Home Team
My fantasy football team always has a Steeler on it, because I have to show the 'Burgh some love. Similarly, I couldn't play this game without including a show that I recap, and so I take Ugly Betty ($84M).

3. Just Wing The Rest
There really is no third rule. Since I picked two big-ticket shows, I now need some cheapies. For the sake of my dignity I don't want them all to be from The CW, so I choose 30 Rock first ($37M). But I really don't have that much dignity, so to round out the team I'll go with Friday Night Smackdown ($27M) and Gossip Girl ($16M). I'll see you in the playoffs, bitches!
