Enterprise
Boy, it's been some year for ripping off old plots, explaining canon, and plain old just making shit up, hasn't it? First, we had to withstand Brent Spiner's stunt appearance, which...wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the butt-ugly Khannabees and just as unattractive plotline that he dragged along in his wake. Then there are some who might think it was memorable -- even laudable -- when Coto decided to devote an entire arc to explaining what was essentially a latex shortage in the '60s. I, however, think not. And it's not just because they decided to compound Quantum's ever-present Rocky Mountain furrows with some rather pathetic Klingon ridges (seriously, those ridges had no honor and would embarrass even the scrawniest of Klingons), it's because they didn't leave well enough alone. And to add insult to serious injury, their "explanation" took all the wind out of Worf's mellifluous sails. Remember when the reserved and proud Worf uncomfortably told Odo and O'Brien in "Trials and Tribble-ations" that the ridge issue was something they didn't discuss with outsiders? Yeah, well, "Affliction" demystified that fine little piece of acting and squeezed every last bit of fun out of it.

Sadly, Coto wasn't done turning Quantum into the Captain Who Did Everything Even If It Should Have Been Done BY the Right and Appropriate Species. The rage I felt when Quantum was given SURAK'S FUCKING KATRA and then had the UNMITIGATED GALL OF THE UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS to condescend to TEACH T'POL how to do a goddamned MIND-MELD...hasn't quite gone away yet.

However, in a year of great anger and disgust, there was also great elation and serious sadness. The Mirror Universe arc gave us awesomely Evil Opening Credits, a brilliantly resurrected TOS set, and a seamless meshing of an old plot with new. The black hair dye and Quantum's death by champagne was just buttercream icing on the genoise cake. In the end, maybe the most memorable thing this year was when Trip died and the audience cried and I cried, but Quantum -- well, he STILL didn't cry! Actually? That's not incredible, that's just pathetic. Sleep with the fishes, Enterprise, you certainly did no better by Trip. -- Keckler

Entourage
The comparative enjoyability of the currently-airing second season doesn't redeem its awesome suckitude in the first season, which only became even slightly interesting in its last episodes. Luckily, the second season was bought and paid for after only the pilot had run, so it just goes to show that sometimes, the greedy TV bubble actually does give a show time to find its footing. (Corrollary: for every Entourage second season, there's a Tru Calling second season, or horrible Joan Of Arcadia retools.)
