Winter Pilot Season: Lie to Me

Torres asks why they tried to "play her," and Foster drops some knowledge on her, revealing that Cal set up the Deception Detection Program at the Defense Department (say that five times fast) before leaving six years ago to start a private consulting firm. They work with all law enforcement agencies, which should allow the show's writers a great deal of flexibility when coming up with cases, and they want Torres to come work for them. Torres seems confused by all this, so I'm not sure if she applied for this job or what. Regardless, Foster has already arranged for her departure from airport security, which seems premature. But considering that Torres gets to keep the briefcase full of money, maybe she'd be better off as a consultant.

Loker comes into Cal's office after talking to the school guidance counselor, and reveals that Jaclyn has been seeing the school nurse a lot, which means drugs or an STD. He even rattles off some possible STDs. Ugh. Shut up. Cal asks Foster if the principal seemed tense, noting that his hand was pressed against his leg the whole time. Foster dismisses it, and says not everyone is hiding something. Cal seems to disagree, and in lieu of calling Foster naïve, points out that she reads romance novels, which is almost as bad. Then Foster slurps on a giant foam drink container.

CAL: "What is that now?"

FOSTER: "Orange Slushee."

CAL: "How old are you?"

Okay, that made me laugh. I hope the food thing keeps happening, fruit of Life be damned.

In a second plotline, the Chairman of the DNC hires the Lightman Group to question Congressman Zeb Weil about a story the press is about to run with regarding his activities at a high-end escort service. Foster almost turns the job down, but the Chairman wants to save the man's career. Also, Torres shows up for work, and Loker immediately tells her he wants to sleep with her. Cal explains to Torres -- and, finally, us -- that Loker is doing a "radical honesty" experiment, where he tells nothing but the truth. Please let it be just for this episode, and not all of them. Loker asks Torres if she's out of his league, and Torres actually plays along by asking how good he is in bed. I throw up in my mouth a little.
