The Southland Premiere
We see younger sister calling her own cell phone trying to get a hold of her brother. Then we see that brother in a hospital with blood everywhere and a crowd of doctors trying to save him. Detectives Bryant and Moretta (Kevin Alejandro) discuss which gang he was in, but think none.
Over in Det. Adams' world. She's trying to soothe the freaked-out mother with a hot beverage and talk to the curious neighbors. A sweet woman says they like the little girl very much, and her son Arsham offers to help in any way possible. Then a cuteish twentysomething guy starts telling Det. Adams that he saw her with a big heavy bookbag the day before... in a pervy way that makes him seems like he's into kiddie porn. Det. Adams does not miss that fact and asks for their names and pertinent info, in case she needs their help.
Grand Central Market, 2:05 PM: John and Cooper sit around with some other officers, including female cop Chickie, who is discussing the possibility of going SWAT. C. Thomas Howell is there. He's kind of being a misogynistic dick. And his name is Billy, for whatever that's worth. Two detectives, who's names we don't learn, head off to investigate the case that Det. Adams is on with the missing girl, just to keep everything nicely intertwined. Billy doesn't understand why Ben doesn't laugh at his uncouth jokes, John repeats again that newbie is Canadian or something. Chickie wants to know where he's from in Canada. Vancouver? Prince Edward Island? He's not from the land up north, sadly. Just then Billy comes up and puts Chickie in a stranglehold. Nice guy Ben tries to rescue her, but she rebuffs his efforts... it's all part of the game.
