Back at Teen Crisis central, Rayanne hangs up the phone and looks smugly over at Sharon. Sharon tries to think of ways she can scrub her brain.
Out on the mean streets of So-Called Town, Patty searches for Tennessee Avenue and Angela to no avail. Through the crowds on the sidewalk, she spots Angela's green boots on Raggedy Girl. Raggedy Girl looks back at Patty but keeps walking. Patty hurries to follow her.
Impending sob-fest, people. We're at Defcon One to Total Annihilation of Mascara.
Chase house. The phone rings. Brian picks it up, probably hoping it's the Help Line. Graham is hoping it's Angela, and it is. "Dad, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" "It's all right, it's all right. Just tell me where you are," says Graham. It turns out Angela is in the basement of some church where they brought all the kids from the warehouse. Graham writes down the address. "You stay there, and we'll come get you," he says. He hangs up the phone and turns to Brian and Danielle. "We're going to church," he says, with a little irony in his voice.
Patty finds herself in the courtyard outside a church. She looks around. "Angela?!" she calls. Raggedy Girl shows up across the courtyard. Patty, half-crying, apologizes and explains that her daughter has boots like Raggedy Girl's. "You see, I'm trying to find my daughter and, uh --" "I know," says Raggedy Girl. "Because I'm no different from her." Patty shakes her head: "No, no, you don't understand." "Yeah, I do," Raggedy Girl says. "I had a mom. Clean sheets, all of that. Another toss of the dice, I could be in her shoes, she could be in mine." "There but for the grace of God," Patty whispers. "Go I," finishes Raggedy Girl. "Go on, ask me." "Why did you leave home?" asks Patty. Raggedy Girl tells her she had a fight with her mom, " the kind of fight where it seems like the fight is having you." Patty stares at Raggedy Girl in disbelief, or belief, or whatever. "So what else do you want to know?" asks Raggedy Girl. Patty hesitates, then asks softly, "How did you die?" Raggedy Girl looks down, like she's thinking hard, or else doesn't want to answer the question. Finally she looks up again and answers. "I froze." Patty looks up at the sky and starts crying some more. "Oh, God, please help me!" After a moment she looks around and then realizes that Raggedy Girl has vanished. She turns and realizes -- hey, speaking of God and all that -- that she's right outside a church. She goes in.
