Addison started to win us over (according to the folks at People) when she proved herself a competent surgeon -- one of the best in her field, in fact, which is par for the course at Seattle Grace. We see her informing a pregnant woman how lucky she is to have Addison as a doctor, since she just happens to be experienced in the very surgical procedure this woman requires to save her unborn, conjoined babies. The woman says, "Okay, but please take Dr. Grey off the surgery," and Addison springs to Meredith's defense. I know I'm supposed to find this admirable or endearing, but really, can you blame the lady for not wanting the scorned wife and the mistress to work together on her life-threatening surgery? I say, hooray, a patient is finally calling the Seattle Grace doctors on their unprofessional behavior. They shouldn't reprimand her, they should hire her as an ombudsman.

Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, Addison's erstwhile husband, was not terribly excited to welcome her to Seattle. For a while he tried pretending not to see her, and when she insisted that he stop ignoring her, he retorted, "Stop being an adulterous bitch." Touché. That was when Addison handed over the divorce papers, offering to sign them, if Derek so chose, but asking him to consider whether, despite her satanic behavior, she might just be the love of his life. Our People editors tell us Derek was conflicted. He once loved her! He spent 11 years with her! Then, in case you were in the bathroom or something, we see a clip of Derek saying pretty much exactly that to Meredith. It's one of those scenes where they're trying to outdo each other with the self-pitying and the simpering and the immaturity, like, "First one to act like a grownup wins!" It's not pretty. And perhaps that's what inspired Derek not to sign the divorce papers. "You're staying with her," Meredith guesses, from behind a surgical mask. He's not so much "staying" as "not leaving," but we'll let the clips do the talking.

Derek lives in a trailer, for reasons I don't understand, and Addison hates it, which I completely understand. She tells him this, and when that doesn't work she tells it to the marriage counselor. Meanwhile, the People magazine editors are talking about all this in the present tense, which is so weird: "Addison's doing everything she can to save this marriage." This includes calling Derek on his silent-treatment bullshit, which seems like a step forward -- but then we see her telling the therapist that she's decided to move to Seattle, because "marriage is about compromise." This declaration is accompanied by a very awkward, very subtle "Should we hold hands? If you want to…No. Okay then. Unless you…No? Never mind" physical exchange, while Derek observes that marriage is about "give and take." (He calls dibs on "take"!)
