Maya's hospital room. Fife's there, telling everyone that hypothermia -- lowering the body temperature -- would give Little Shephard more time to work and she could potentially save Maya's ability to walk. But the baby might die from the cold. Naomi chooses to let her walk again, but Sam reminds Naomi it's a full-term baby and Maya wants that baby even though Naomi didn't. They scream at each other, and Addison asks them to take a break. Pete asks Dink what to do, and he's like, "I want to save them both." Little Shephard is a bitch about it, so he says, "I'm a kid. They don't teach you to choose between your paralyzed wife and your dying baby in Mathletes." That is some horrifyingly unrealistic dialogue. No kid would ever say that. They decide Little Shephard will try to save them both, though she'll have to be fast to save the baby. Sam leaves the room, and Addison follows to make sure he's okay, but obviously he's not. He asks her just to stand there with him for a minute, so she does. She looks at him longingly, which is sort of gross in this situation.
Pete's observing as Sam continues to operate. Sam's partially relieved he has something to do with himself. Then the guy on the table starts to move, so Sam yells at the anesthesia guy, who says this guy's blood-alcohol level is 0.3 so he's going through the anesthesia quickly. Sam asks if this is the guy who hit Maya and then says, "Of course it is." Pete tries to get him to operate, but Sam won't, so Pete finally tells him it's not the same guy. This is L.A.; there's a car accident every four minutes. He swears to Sam it's not the same guy so Sam will keep operating, as the guy's machines pick up. Sam goes back to operating on the drunk driver, though he does mutter to the guy that he's damn right God's pissed off at him.
Naomi's outside Maya's room, looking in, whining to Fife that Maya called Dell instead of her when she went into labor. She says if she hadn't turned her back on her, she would have called her instead of Dell, and they wouldn't be standing here discussing whether she'll die of hypothermia or never walk again. Because she could have avoided the drunk driver, of course. Fife looks awkward, because Dell's now standing behind Naomi and heard this. He just smiles, and she tells him she knows he didn't crash the car. He nods and says he's going to get water; does she want anything. She doesn't. Fife tells her to stop beating herself up for five minutes. Then she thinks about William, and asks how he's doing. Fife says he's doing great, no nausea or anything, but he's sleeping and she should let him rest. She asks Fife if they'll call him when William wakes up and he says yeah. He watches her sweetly as she worries about Maya and William.
