I'm actually primed to like this episode from the get-go because they are playing "Birdhouse in Your Soul" and I love that song... though it is now permanently associated with Pushing Daisies in my mind. Way to rub it in, ABC. Then I see that Robin Weigert (who will always be Calamity Jane to me) and Tessa Thompson (who will always be Jackie to me) are playing pregnant women who are accidentally carrying each other's embryos, and Bill Buchanan is back trying to woo Naomi away and I'm all giddy. Then I realize that Naomi is a moron for getting the embryos mixed up in the first place and I'm all annoyed again.
I immediately presume that it is Naomi's fault, that she was distracted about some guy. But the rest of the Oceanside staffers blame Dell. Even the lawyer advises that they fire his ass. Of course this is the lawyer that Naomi is sleeping with. So... they decide that Dell can't deliver any kids and he's got nothing to do and then Heather comes back and she's all strung out. She'll give him his kid in exchange for 10 grand. A bargain! So Dell goes begging Naomi for money and says that he really is to blame because he was rightly concerned that his junkie ex would lose his daughter. Sam catches wind and gives him the what for and then gives him the cash, but Dell decides to basically just steal the kid away and not give Heather the money after all because she'll just kill herself.
Sam also finally tells Naomi that he's totally in love with her still and that she shouldn't leave the practice to take Bill Buchanan up on his offer. Naomi just stone cold shoots him down and takes the new gig. Which puts Charlotte out of a job, since Bill decided that Charlotte was a heartless bitch (true) and that her staff hated her (also true). She in turn spends the episode, spying, yelling at Cooper about putting Violet's needs first and then crying because she got canned. But doesn't she still have her job at the hospital? Why does this other practice matter so much?
Violet does in fact need Cooper more than whiny Charlotte, since she's about damned ready to pop. Pete comes to her and tells her that he loves her and wants to be with her, even if the kid isn't his. She tells him no, but then changes her mind and there is much making out. She seems all happy until Crazy Katie (Amanda Foreman) arrives at Violet's house claiming that the shrink stole her kid. She injects her with a sedative, punches her in the damned face, and then tries to do an impromptu c-section. One has to wonder where she got all these medical supplies.
In Addison land, Morgan's also on the brink of delivery, when she notices that there are major sparks between her husband and Addy. Addison denies it and makes the pregnant woman feel guilty. But Noah says he wants to be with Addison and they totally make out in her office... until Morgan goes into labor. Then Addison realizes that her cheatin' heart won't allow her to be in the same room with them, so she sends Dell in instead.
That's the end of the season. With Morgan in labor, Violet on the floor bleeding and getting her kid ripped out of her, Charlotte crying on the couch and Naomi taking the job upstairs at the good coffee practice. The only thing that isn't left up in the air is the swapped embryo women who decided to carry each other's kids and then switch after birth. - Angel Cohn
Bill Buchanan comes into the office that he apparently owns, as Naomi's getting breakfast. He thinks this means she's thinking about working for him, but it actually just means she was hungry. But they are still on for dinner, so she probably is still thinking about it. Charlotte sees it all happen, smiles awkwardly as Sheldon and Bill go into an office together, and then turns around to tell Cooper, who's in her office, that Bill's meeting with everyone except her. Cooper's phone beeps as he tells her that she has a contract, so he can't push her out. Charlotte wants to talk to him and thinks it's Violet on the phone. Again. Cooper yells "Grasshopper!" as he leaves. Weird.
He enters an office at Oceanside and asks if Violet "Grasshoppered" him. She nods, and we find out it's because the baby (or "bug") is coming. Dell's there. Addison comes in right after Cooper, and says she knows this is Dell's case, but she's here for support. Pete comes in, and Violet and Pete are all, "We're going to do this." Dell's all, "Not today," because she isn't dilated and is not in labor. She tries to pretend she knows labor because she's a doctor, and Dell says she knows psychosis, but not labor. I would like to point out she's not great at the psychosis stuff, either. Addison agrees and leaves. Violet wants the baby out. Pete tells her to be patient. Sheldon comes running in frantically at the last minute, with a stuffed pig. He holds Violet's hand, and Pete's on the other side of her. It's awkward. But when is it not on this show?
Naomi greets Calamity Jane and Jackie, who apparently showed up at the exact same time for separate ultrasound appointments. Jane gets to go first, and Jackie tells them to take their time, since she's waiting on her husband. There are so many things about that situation that would never happen in real life. It would make me mad except that it's this show, so why bother? Pete's making the crazy lady who wanted to keep her dead baby inside her (keeping with the TV stars of the past theme, though, she's also Marshall's wife, Carrie, on Alias) feel good. She's laying in his office saying "Do it more," and the like. But it appears to be a massage. You know, because he's a real doctor. He asks if she's feeling better, and she has no idea what he's talking about. She pretends she doesn't know what "loss" he's referring to. She says there's no grief. She just changed her way of thinking. This is a celebration, because she made life, even though the baby was lost. And labor's hard, anyway. Did you know that? He reminds her to take her medications, since she has a history of delusions.
