Daniel feels like Layana is being too controlling. She's thinking about all of the things that her design shouldn't be. Daniel thinks that she needs to relax. I've said it before -- I think that Layana's greatest contribution is as an editor. She knows what to take away but I don't really think she's that great of a designer. I feel like sometimes I sound overly harsh about people that excel in the edit side but really it's just that I think it takes a little more courage to be a pure designer. You're already criticizing a lot when you edit and I feel like it keeps you in this safe place and that's why it bothers me when you see her hitting people where it hurts. Layana interviews that Daniel is being supportive but isn't helping her get out of the spot that she's in. Really? Is that his responsibility? You want him to design the dress for you, while you criticize his contributions. Ugh, she's the WORST.
Patricia is frustrated because, while she is making a lot of progress with her look, he is busying himself making a bracelet. Well, to be fair, Richard has been open about the fact that he's not sure what the hell he's doing for this challenge. So she has him work on her look so maybe he can get some inspiration.
The next day, they get back to the workroom and their custom textiles are waiting for them! Everyone is very excited about the results. Oh my God, Richard is still working on that bracelet and Patricia is starting to get annoyed. Michelle notices that Patricia is getting upset and she thinks that she's being too nice. Richard interviews that the bracelet is a beautiful creation and fashion was born this morning. Wow. I mean, WOW. Did he really? I'd like to believe that Richard knows that he's being silly, but I don't know.
Layana is draping with the custom textile and doesn't leave Daniel anything to work with. She pulls her stupid little girl act again when he tries to explain to her that he won't have anything to use. Basically, she reserves less than a yard of fabric for him to use, but he doesn't freak out about it. He says that he can make it work. I don't know what's really happening with Patricia and Richard. She feels like she's helping him and he's feeling like he helped her too much. It's unclear as an observer.
We see Layana make her way over to Patricia and tell her that she has lost her way creatively. I guess the subtext was she was asking for help about what she should do, but luckily Patricia didn't give her anything. She feels like her design is clashing with her print. Um, the print that she designed. Patricia interviews that Layana's design looks like a cake and not very artful. Heh. Layana interviews that she has re-draped her design several times because she wants the prize so badly. It would pay for her student loans. You're preaching to the choir, asshole. Everyone has bills. Daniel notes that he has never seen Layana so vulnerable. He feels like she is not focused. Could she be going home? Could we be so lucky? I'm afraid to even hope for it.
