MONDO EXTRAS
Hey It's That Guy! Ray Wise
Despite this history of playing professionals and politicians and other smooth-surfaced creeps, part of the reason Wise is so versatile, and so good as the devil, is that before that, he was also sometimes kind of a thug. He played one of the villain's goons in Robocop, and when he appeared on Moonlighting, his character was simply named "Murderer."
Ray Wise has a hell of a résumé, largely built on things he probably doesn't even remember doing. Do you think he remembers who "Frank Duran" was on Scarecrow & Mrs. King? How about "Phillip Chadway" on The A-Team? "Harry McGunn" in Jake And The Fatman? We suspect he doesn't. But in Reaper, he has the perfect chance to stop playing everyday officious bad guys and sleazeballs and take a shot at the most officious bad guy of all. We're not sure there would be all that many reasons to watch Reaper otherwise, but for a good turn by Ray Wise as the devil, we might give it a chance.
