The cops bust into the motel room that the family recently vacated. "You didn't see them leave?" the officer demands of the elderly motel manager, who didn't even know there was anyone in the room besides Henry. He says that he saw the kid on the pay phone outside around 8:30. Which is 9:30 Eastern, so it's either not a school day or Henry's girlfriend is kind of a slacker.
Meanwhile, at U.S. Marshals HQ in Arlington, Virginia (thank you, stencil-font subtitles), a Marshal is listening in on the conversation over a headset at her desk. She tells the local cop to ask the motel manager for the license plates on the family's vehicle.
And so, back in the family truckster, the gang gets to hear a Quad Cities APB for "suspect Paul Rader, 40 year old male, 5'11", 180 pounds, gray hair. Believed to be with a wife and three children in a 1989 Volvo station wagon." The cops even have the license plate number we saw sinking into the Hennepin Canal a few minutes ago. So if you didn't already know that Donnie is playing Paul Rader, you do now. His hair isn't gray, though; he's dyed it a muddy brown, probably as a disguise. It's also growing out rather unattractively in the back, which in combination with his receding hairline makes him look a bit like Lenny from The Simpsons. As for the rest of the description, he doesn't look so much "armed and dangerous" as "tired and grumpy." Which are often confused with one another.
