Metropolis at night. Chloe is in a tastefully decorated room, looking at papers on a very small bed. Something whooshes into the room, sending her papers flying everywhere. "Clark!" Chloe says. "Can you at least put on the brakes before you tornado my homework?" Clark says he's sorry. Chloe puts her homework away, reasoning that Dostoyevsky's Idiot isn't going to get any smarter. Nor is our protagonist. Chloe says Miss Sullivan's advice column is open for letters. Without any preamble, Clark says, "Lana and I had another fight." Clark seriously needs more friends. This is ridiculous. Chloe says she already talked to Lana about the fight. Clark wants to know what she said. Chloe goes over the headlines, adding, "Forced to turn to everyone's favorite villain-in-waiting." Clark asks how long Lana's been working with Lex on the spaceship. Chloe says it's the first she's heard of it. Clark comes over to the bed with only asshole intent. He asks Chloe to ask that next time she speaks to Lana. Chloe isn't cool with being asked to spy on a friend. She says there's no way she's getting in the middle of this. Clark frowns. Then Chloe's phone rings. "Is that Lana?" Clark asks. Chloe picks up her Treo and answers. Chloe tells the person on the phone that Lana hasn't been back to her dorm room at all. Chloe tells Clark it was the Smallville Sheriff's Department. They found Lana's car by the side of the road.
