The Dress Rehearsal - Derek gives one of Karen's songs to Ana, so Karen throws a hissy fit because she is a miserable brat. The Surprise Party - It's Ivy's birthday, and her present is LIZA MINNELLI. Downtown, Derek finds out Karen and Jimmy are banging, and throws a hissy fit. Which is nothing compared to the hissy Jimmy's going to throw when he finds out Julia helped Kyle rewrite Hit List.

Musical Chairs - It's all contracts all the time on NBC's nonstop legit thrill ride! No, really. Half of this episode is about contract negotiations. The other half is about Sean Hayes falling on his face, so we kind of break even.

Bomb Threats

The Fringe - Everything is terrible: the first performance of Hit List at the Winter Fringe because Karen has to drop out after Jerry makes her choose between the two shows, the press preview of Liaisons! because Terry is an insane clown, and the current incarnation of Bombshell, because Jerry is a vulgarian. But everything is okay because Jesse L. Martin is here and god willing he will sing to us.

The Substance of Getting Fired

The Read-Through - It's read-through day for both Hit List and the new version of Bombshell. The good news is that everyone loves Julia's new book — everyone except Jerry, who thinks it isn't commercial enough. The bad news is that Kyle's book for Hit List is grade-A garbage, so he cries forever.

The Fixer

The Dramaturg - Eileen's solution for Julia's terrible book for Bombshell is to bring in a script doctor, in the person of the delicious Mr. Daniel Sunjata. He makes everything 500 times hotter and sassier by repeatedly telling Julia she's wrong and boring and I vote we keep him forever. In Greenpoint, Jimmy and Kyle squabble in their squalid apartment until Karen finally drags Derek across the river to listen to their grubby little songs.

What Doesn't Kill You

The Fallout - Bombshell is frozen by the feds and Derek's being drawn and quartered in the press because he's a sleaze, so Eileen tries to resurrect the show's good word-of-mouth with an impromptu performance in front of the entire American Theatre Wing. Amazingly, this doesn't get them laughed out of town. Also, Karen goes to Brooklyn and survives.

I Won't Quit Till I'm a Star

On Broadway - We're back! The guy from Gossip Girl is in charge! He's jettisoned Ellis, Shrek, Dull Leo and Julia's scarves, but he hasn't thrown Karen to the lions at the Bronx Zoo, so it's kind of a wash. At least the guy from Newsies is here for us to ogle.

Maybe This Time

Bombshell - Derek picks Karen to play Marilyn, which sends Ivy into a tailspin of possibly suicidal despair, so she tells Karen how she slept with Dev and the whole show teeters on the verge of disaster. But then Karen sings the hell out of that eleven o'clock number, and everything wraps up beautifully — except we all still wonder how much better Ivy would've done it. But at least Ellis gets fired. HOORAY!

Technical Difficulties
