Jimmy walks up to a house on a darkened street and climbs in a ground-level window. He's riffling through drawers, obviously looking for that notebook he left In the Place We Don't Speak Of, when a guy interrupts him and says, "You've got balls, Jimmy" before jumping him. Not in a sexy way.
Kyle is sitting alone at a restaurant when Jimmy shows up, late. Kyle frets about whether the show is good enough and Jimmy hands over the pages. His lip is bleeding, and Kyle tells him he told him not to go Back There to the Place of Mystery, but Jimmy says it's their one shot, right? Karen calls to tell them rehearsal has run late and they need to reschedule. Jimmy hangs up and gets up and leaves. Would someone just be nice to Kyle, like once?! Let him sing, let him dance, let him make out with sleazy Bobby!
Julia comes home to Tom's place, where he's enjoying a Ben & Jerry's nightcap, and commands him to get to the studio. He's going to finish his ice cream, but she screams at him to get there now.
Ivy is running through her audition lines in that weird, heightened faux-British accent that THEATAH actors so like to do, and Tom is yawning because Julia kept him up all night working. He apologizes, but she says she understands, because she's boring and her accent is terrible. (It is.) She wants to cancel the audition, but Tom says they just need to work on it. They start character brainstorming about lovely virginal Cécile and how she learns to manipulate men, and OF COURSE Ivy says, "She's Marilyn!" UGH. Stage manager Linda pops in to call Tom away, and he hugs Ivy and leaves.
Rehearsal. Julia and Tom show up with their friend Matt, who will be playing JFK in a new number until the real actor, Simon, arrives. Derek protests that they're going to do "Moving the Line" (because that will show the Wiz producer that he's family friendly! Seriously, did no one give that aspect more than two seconds' thought?) but Julia overrules him. Peter arrives, and Julia introduces him as "the dramaturg you signed off on." She says the scene is the mating dance between Kennedy and Marilyn, at Bing Crosby's house in Palm Springs, leading to the first time they have sex. She hands over the page and Karen observes to Derek, "This isn't going to help you with The Wiz."
Kyle is frantically pacing and telling Jimmy how he texted Karen about rescheduling. Jimmy is, hilariously, like, up on top of the cabinets, drinking a beer and moaning cynically about how Karen will get back to them round about never. Kyle protests that Karen isn't fake and she's going to help them. Jimmy would not trust La Cartwright as far as he can throw her, and good on him.
